ANNOUNCEMENTS Contact Andrea with questions or to help out.) SIGN UP NOW FOR VACATION BIBLE CAMP! WE RE GOING TO BABYLON! We need more Baptism hosts or hostesses. Can you help? Baptize your baby? 40 day blessing? Call to sign up. Next date for: RCIA Adapted for Children: Saturday, May 26, at 3:30 (lower Brendan House) Vacation Bible Camp: July 9-13. Registration available after Mass or at the parish office Old Testament THE ARK OF THE COVENANT IS RETURNED 1 Samuel 5: 6 7: 4 The people of Ashdod who had stolen the Ark of the Covenant from Israel were soon sorry for what they had done. They didn t know that God had created heaven and earth, so they worshipped little gods they thought could help them. The people in Gath wanted the Ark, but they soon passed it on to Ekron. Our God is worshipped with praise and thanksgiving. God doesn t need any offerings of food because He gives us our food. At last the Philistines decided they should send the Ark back to Israel on a cart pulled by two cows. They trusted the Ark to show the cows which way to go. Sure enough the cows headed straight for one of the towns of Israel. Just to be on the safe side the people of Ekron had added little golden offerings to apologize to the God of the Israelites for stealing the Ark. New Testament JESUS WALKS ON WATER Mark 6: 45-54 After feeding 5,000 families, Jesus told his disciples to take the boat across the Sea of Galilee toward Bethsaida. Jesus was left alone to dismiss the crowds. He spent the night in prayer. In the middle of the night Jesus could see that his disciples were having a difficult time rowing against a strong wind. Around 3:00 in the morning he decided to go out to help them. This event is a good example of the Bible verse (Isaiah 55: 8), My thoughts are not your thoughts. When the disciples saw Jesus, he was walking right on the top of the water. They were badly frightened. Jesus seemed surprised that they were afraid. As soon as he got into the boat, the wind died down. LEARNING ABOUT OUR FAITH Love Your Neighbor Do you have neighbors? Do you have children to play with who live close to you? Jesus had a new way of talking about neighbors. They aren t just people who live nearby, or people who are like us. A neighbor is anyone who needs help or even friendliness. Jesus explained this way of being a neighbor in the story of The Good Samaritan (Luke 10: 25-37) Alphabet Soup K is for kings. Israel was ruled for many year by kings appointed by God. The first was Saul, then David, then Solomon, then Rehoboam. After Rehoboam, the kingdom was divided between Israel in the north and Judah in the south.. PAGE 4

Jesus makes it clear that it matters not how much one gives, but that it is planned, calculated, at least somewhat sacrificial (see Luke 24:1-4), and not simply from what is leftover at the end of the month. We propose the tithe (10%) as the ideal every family can consider working towards. This means taking steps to give 5% to one s parish, and 5% to other charities or causes you have personal passion for. You can register online at www.saintbrendan.org and click on the link Online Registration/New Parishioner on lower left corner of website and to give online, click on the Online Giving link. It s quick, secure, convenient, and easy. Your support helps sustain our parish. If you need help with online giving, please call the Parish Office at 425-483-9400. PAGE 7
