Juanita Allie Cureton lovingly known as Pie, was born on September 29, 1959 at Columbus Hospital in Newark, New Jersey to the late Louie Roy Cureton Jr. and Estella Norma Garrett-Cureton. Pie attended Cleveland Elementary School, West Kinney Middle School and Central High School. She was employed by Bell Telephone and later with The Leaguers, Inc as a cook. She was the president of Ladies of Body and an associate matron of The Eastern Stars. Pie was a community mother. She was truly a phenomenal woman. She was the heart of our family and the pillar of our lives. She was the most generous, outspoken, sensitive, passionate, loving, altruistic, gentle, empathetic, beautiful, patient, inspirational, galvanizing and determined woman. She was our EVERYTHING! If you never had some of Pie s cooking, you haven t had real soul food. Everyone loved her cooking and enjoyed spending time with her daily. Just being in her presence was a blessing. Juanita was called home on Tuesday, July 19, 2011. Pie leaves to cherish her memory: her life partner, William Wright; her children, Qamar, Tanzania, Shantay, Phyllis, Kisha, Romel, Rajahn and Quadea Cureton; her brothers, Ronald, Andrew, Reginald, Melvin Cureton and Abdur Raheem Mubarak; sisters, Tonya and Adrian Cureton and Carol Hinton; grandchildren, Raafiq Everson, Shaheed Clark, Monica Russell, Alaysia Cureton, Sanai Clark, Shahidah and Muwahid Williams, Rasheerah Cureton, Hamid and Isaiah Wright, Shaniquah Jamison, Cartier, Sincere and Quashawn Cureton and Khaleeah Cherry; great grandchildren, Azi ah and Saniyah Patterson, Da Mya Williams, Amari Wright and Azzaire Jamison; god-daughter, Jayah Boyd; best friend, Bernadette Spencer; life long friends, Beverly Davis and Renee Wilson; son-in-law, Rashan Williams; special nieces and nephews, Quadri, Shaahid, Mushir, Bilal, Al-Tariq, Roniqua and Saroya Cureton, Tavonna and Takisha Warren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones. When I am gone, release me, let me go. I have so many things to see and do, You mustn't tie yourself to me with too many tears, but be thankful we had so many good years. I gave you my love, and you can only guess How much you've given me in happiness. I thank you for the love that you have shown, But now it is time I traveled on alone. So grieve for me a while, if grieve you must Then let your grief be comforted by trust That it is only for a while that we must part, So treasure the memories within your heart. I won't be far away for life goes on. And if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can't see or touch me, I will be near And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear All my love around you soft and clear And then, when you come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile and a "Welcome Home". Perhaps you sent a lovely card or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent a floral piece If so, we saw it there. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words as any friend could say. Perhaps you were not there at all just thought of us on that day. Whatever you did to console our hearts, We Thank You, Whatever the part. 130 Main Street 1025 Bergen Street Orange, NJ Newark, NJ 973-675-6400 973-926-6400 37 Clinton Avenue Jersey City, NJ 201-433-1000 w w w. h o n o r y o u. c o m
