The Thirty Second Sunday in Ordinary Time November 11, 2018 St. Luke Church, Whitestone, New York O sacred season of Autumn, be my teacher For I wish to learn the virtue of contentment. As I gaze upon hour full-colored beauty, I sense all about you An at-homeness with your amber riches. You are the season of retirement, Of full barns and harvested fields. The cycle of growth has ceased, And the busy work of giving life Is now completed. I sense in you no regrets: You ve lived a full life. Autumn Psalm I live in a society that is ever-restless, Always eager for more mountains to climb, Seeking happiness through more and more possessions. As a child of my culture, I am seldom truly at peace with what I have. Teach me to take stock of what I have given and received; May I know that it s enough, That my striving can cease In the abundance of God s grace. May I know the contentment That allows the totality of my energies To come full flower. May I know that like you I am rich beyond measure. As you, O autumn, take pleasure in your great bounty, Let me also take delight In the abundance of the simple things in life Which are the true source of joy. With the golden glow of peaceful contentment May I truly appreciate this autumn day. Edward Hays, Prayers for a Planetary Pilgrim 1

Learning about St. John the Baptist... Ms. Critelli s class (1-1) and Mrs. Turano s class (1-2) learned about St. John the Baptist during their Religion classes. After their lessons, the students enjoyed making projects about St. John the Baptist, which are displayed in their respective classrooms. Learning Responsibility with Chloe and Zoe! Mrs. Kenny s nursery class really enjoyed meeting our school guinea pigs, Zoe and Chloe, and taking care of them in our classroom for a week. We also had some lessons about guinea pigs and learned so much about them. At first, Mrs. Kenny took care of them, but after a few days, the children were able to remind Mrs. Kenny to take care of them and told her what to do. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn responsibility and how to love and care for two of God s special creatures! 14

Learning to Draw The first grade is working on their pencil sketches in Art. We learned about the use of line to draw a fish. We are so excited to add color. Learning Adjectives Class 3-2 explored what an adjective is by using their 5 senses to describe popcorn. They used adjectives like yummy, fluffy, salty, and yellow to describe the delicious popcorn. Then they wrote a paragraph with juicy words, or words that make our writing more interesting to describe the popcorn snack they enjoyed in class. They loved that they got to mix learning with a treat! 15
