Fourth Sunday of Easter May 11, 2014 Happy Mothers Day! It s only an old note card: faded, spotted, wrinkled with age. But on it is my grandma s recipe for Lemon Chiffon Pie. Grandma Christine Marie baked lots of those for the church suppers at First Lutheran Church in Bemidji, Minnesota. Grandma died before I was born. When I was 10, hearing my Mom describe those pies, I asked her to make her mother s pie. She called her sister, my Aunt Gen, to get the recipe, and typed it up on that card on her manual typewriter. Mom always typed her recipes and letters she wrote at least one a day. There s a couple of typos in the recipe, where 2 letters collided when Mom struck the keys too fast. Fifty years later, the card sits in a frame in my kitchen, reminding me of all those women. Grandma Christine Marie, who kept her family of 7 kids together as a widow in the Depression. Aunt Gen, whose family and mine always were around each other. My mother, Marie Christine, who taught me to love Jesus. This Mothers Day, I am grateful for them and every loving mother. Father Paul Grandma s Lemon chiffon pie Cook together until slightly thick: 3 egg yolks juice and rind of 1 lemon 1/2 cup sugar 3 tbsp. water Beat Have a great piece of pie! 3 egg whites 1/2 cup sugar Take one-half of it for pie and the other half for meringue. If you would like to memorialize a hymnal please provide the information on the form below. It is a likeness of the actual memorial plate that will be placed in the front of each book. Memorializing a hymnal is a wonderful way to remind us to pray for someone. And not only would you be praying for this individual, but anyone who opens that hymnal would see that individual s name, and could also offer a prayer for him or her. Closing May 16th The cost to memorialize a hymnal is $20. You can place your Memorial donation along with the memorial plate information in your parish envelope, or in a blue and white envelope which are in the pews and at the parish office. Donation envelopes can be returned to the parish office, or in the offertory collection at our weekend liturgies. Please cut along the dotted line and include the memorial information along with your donation.
