TEACHER DEVOTIONAL Read: Genesis 1 and Colossians 1:15-17 In the beginning, God created the universe and everything in it. It wasn't always here. It didn't spontaneously come into being on its own. God ordered all of creation and set everything in place according to his grand design and purpose. In Colossians, we learn that Jesus is the firstborn over all creation. That doesn t mean he was the firstborn of creation. Jesus was in existence with God the Father and the Holy Spirit from eternity. Jesus was there at creation and was himself the agent of creation. All things were made by him, through him and for him. Psalm 19:1 says, The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. The universe itself declares the glory of God. Creation reveals God s infinite goodness, wisdom and creativity. When we contemplate the design and the order of the world around us the beauty and magnificence of the mountains, the brilliance of color in a sunrise or sunset, the power and intensity of the ocean, the expanse of the starry night sky we cannot help but praise our awesome Creator God! What about creation inspires you to worship God? What do you think it means that all things were made for God (Colossians1:15-17)? Summit Creative Company. WELCOME Welcome boys and girls. I m so glad you re here! Before we get started with today s lesson, let s review our room rules so that we can have the most fun. (Go over room rules. Sample rules: join in, be a friend, be safe, leaders rule.) WORSHIP Ok, let s all join in right now and stand up for worship. Let s do our best singing so we can let God know how much we love him! (Play a few songs for kids to sing and dance to.) FRIENDS AROUND THE WORLD (Share with kids how God asks us to love all his children through giving and praying. Talk about a global or local outreach program and encourage kids to give by collecting an offering.) INTRO Raise your hand if you love the summertime. Me too! Wanna know why? I LOVE playing outside. I like to swim, climb trees, and ride my bike. How about you? Do you like those things too? (Kids respond.) Cool. But there s one thing I like to do even more than all of those. Can you guess what it is? (Kids shout guesses.) How about I show you a few clues? Sound fun? Ok! Here s your first clue. (Pull out string from bin.) Any guesses now? (Take responses.) Maybe. Ready for the next clue? (Pull out kite tail from bin.) How about now? Are you getting close? Do you think you know what my favorite thing to do is? (Take responses.) I have one more clue. (Pull out kite from bin.) Now do you know? (Take responses.) You got it! My favorite thing to do in the summer is to fly a kite. Raise your hand if you ve ever flown a kite. Kites can fly way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, up in the sky. You have to hold onto the string though, or your kite will fly all the way away! You have to run and run and run really fast (Run across stage.) as fast as you can and then someone lets go of the kite and up it goes. It s so pretty to watch a kite flying up in the big, blue sky. This kite came from the store. But does anyone know where the sky came from? Does anyone know who made the big, blue sky? That s right! God made the sky. God made the big, blue sky. Today we get to hear a story about how God made everything including the big, blue sky. Show Series Graphic: God Made Everything Summit Creative Company. Thurman the Cat (Point to series graphic.) is learning with us. Remember him? (Kids respond.) Good! Let s get ready to watch and listen. BIBLE TRUTH Show Video: Wk. 1 God Made Everything APPLICATION Show Series Graphic: God Made Everything Awe, Thurman is so cute. I m glad Sally Ritter Critter Sitter told him about all the things God made so Thurman wouldn t be so afraid of the dark. God made the night and day, sun, moon, and stars. That s amazing! God made everything! Bible Verse (Open Bible.) It says so right here in the Bible. Show Verse: God made everything, Acts 17:24. Let s all stand up and say that with motions. Follow me. God (Point up.) made (Hold hands in front of you and pretend like you are sculpting the world) everything, (Hold hands above head and wiggle fingers.) Acts 17:24. (Hold hands open like a book.) (Practice verse a couple times using whisper voices, silly voices, loud voices, slow, fast, etc. Then have kids sit back down, get quiet, fold hands, and close eyes.) Great job, everybody! Let s thank God for making everything. PRAYER Dear God, you are AMAZING! You made everything including the night, day, sun, moon, and stars. We love you, amen. BIG GROUP GAME Let s play a game to help us remember all the cool stuff God made. This bin is full of things that we use during the night and the day. Can you help me figure out when we use what? (Kids respond.) Good! I ll pull something out and if we use at night, shout, Night! and if we use it during the day, shout, Day! Then we re going to do some actions to go along with the items. (Pull out items one at a time. After kids shout night or day, pretend to use the item and encourage kids to pretend with you.) Summit Creative Company.
