Chapter U Gathering November 7, 2018 Chapter U + U = FUN The November Gathering of Chapter U was held on Wednesday evening 11/7/2018 at Chuy s Restaurant on IH35 in Selma. The gathering was moved up this month to avoid the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday. As always, the GWRRA motto of Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge was in full effect. Food and Fellowship began at 6:00 p.m. with the official business of Chapter U beginning at 7:00 p.m. Chapter Director s Ed & Helen Smith brought the meeting to order by welcoming everyone that was present and Honoring our Flag and Country with the Pledge of Allegiance. This month we had 34 people present with 29 members and five guests. Our guests were Jamie Chavez, Dan & Chris Markulin, Maria Morales, and Ronald Fox. The first order of business was to recognize some members that were receiving their Level I patches tonight. Ron Perry and Phil & Sandy Aguirre have made the commitment to Ride Safe, which is all you have to do to be a Level I Rider or Co-Rider. This sounds easy but it is a very important step. Riding Safely is something that all GWRRA members strive to do. The Levels Program gives us a set of guidelines to help accomplish that but let s face it, if Riding Safely is not what you want to do then GWRRA is not for you. Every GWRRA and Chapter U Member should at least be a Level I. So if you haven t already done so, get involved in the Levels Program and make the pledge to be a Safe Rider. Thanks and Congratulations to Ron, Phil & Sandy. Ron Perry Phil & Sandy Aguirre Level I Recipient s

Ed ran down the list of Member Birthday s and Wedding Anniversaries for November and then it was time for the MEC Contest. This month s contest was to tell a Corny Joke. Before we started Helen Smith passed a basket full of jokes for those of us that didn t bring our own. Here are some examples of some of these. Q. What did the big bucket say to the little bucket? A. Lookin a little pail there. Q. What do you do when you see a spaceman? A. Park your car, man. Q. Why do chicken coups always have four doors? A. With four, they d be chicken sedans. While any of these could have won, Mike Harris took home the prize with a story about a guy in the bathroom with toilet paper and a fax machine. While it wasn t particularly corny it was the best joke of the night and Mike took the prize running away. Please fax him your congratulations! Our ride coordinator Pat Wall gave us info on the last ride on the schedule for the year right now which is to Rockport on Saturday, November 10 th. The remaining events on the 2018 Calendar include the following. Saturday November 10 th, ride to Rockport TX. for lunch at Charlotte Plumbers. Departs from Kent Powersports at 7:30 am. Saturday December 8 th, Chapter U Christmas Party Montana Mikes in New Braunfels, 12 to 3 pm. More information about all rides and events can be found on the Chapter U Website. Pat Kendrick informed us that Chapter U Members had purchased $575 worth of Christmas Drawing tickets this year so the prize amount at the Chapter Christmas Party will be $288. If you purchased tickets for this drawing during the year you must be present to win and there will be no more tickets sold after tonight. So make plans to be at the Party on December 8 th. And while we re talking about the Christmas Party, Ed reminded everyone that you need to make sure and RSVP if you plan to attend. We also need to let him know if you plan to have Prime Rib for lunch at the party. Montana Mike s needs these numbers in advance so please don t forget to take care of this. Everyone present will receive one raffle ticket for door prizes when they arrive. No tickets will be sold at the party. He also mentioned that we will have a $20 Gift Exchange so bring a Gift if you d like to receive one. We will also be collecting $15 toys for a local Toy Drive and non-perishable food items to be donated to local food drive. There will also be a contest at the party to determine the person with the most Christmas Spirit.

If you think it s you, figure out how to show that spirit to everyone else and you might win a prize that is yet to be determined. The Christmas Party will be here before you know it so get ready! Ed announced that our Chapter MEC Tom Hendricks and Ride Coordinator Pat Wall are both stepping down after this year. That means we need volunteers to step up and take over these positions along with some others. Please consider stepping up for one of these positions. Our Chapter is depending on you! Ed also mentioned that the Chapter is looking at putting on a First Aid and CPR Class on February 1 st and 2 nd next year. The details of this class have not been finalized yet but save the dates if you think you might want to take the class and we ll have details at a later date. This is also a good way to move up in the Levels Program that I mentioned earlier in this article so make plans now to attend. He also mentioned a few non-chapter events to consider. Dec. 2 nd - Wear Blue to Remember in conjunction with the Rock n Roll Marathon. Dec. 15 th - Wreath s across America Wreath Laying at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. Wreath pickup to be held in January. Jan. 26 th - GWRRA Texas District Mid-Winter Roundup. Paris, TX. Details about these and any other events you are interested in can be found on the Chapter U website. Sal & Phylis Pesta

We were all overjoyed to see Phylis Pesta, and Sal, at the meeting tonight. She took the mic to Thank everyone again for all of the kindness and good deeds they received after their recent accident. It was wonderful to see her and we all wish continued Get Well Soon wishes to her. The last thing of the evening was the Prize Raffle. This month s winners were, 20%, $20.00 Helen Smith 30%, $31.00 Debbie Hay $25.00 Gift Card from Kent Motorsports Tim JR Gressler $75.00 Gift Card from Kent Powersports Dwaine Smith Tonight s Last Chance winners of a Frozen Turkey for Thanksgiving were Dan & Barbara Trammell. Last Chance Winners Dan & Barbara Trammell

Thanks as always to all of our sponsors. Kent Powersports, Kent Motorsports, and Chuy s Restaurant. We can t say it enough! Please support them with your patronage! Remember there will not be a regular gathering in December. The Chapter Christmas Party will be held instead. The next regular gathering at Chuy s will be held on Wednesday, January 16 th, 2019. See you there! Please see all of the photos on Shutterfly at TexasChapterU. Write up and photos by Scott Hay
