THE ACORN November 2018 Located at: 2965 Oakland Church Rd. Gum Spring, VA 23065 On the web at: www.oakland-baptist.com Office: 804-556-3550 Dear Church Family, We are now officially into the fall season! The football season is in full swing, pumpkins are being picked, and the temperature has dropped I love it! Fall is my favorite season because along with the cooler temperatures, comes the feeling of warmth through wood-burning fires, blankets, cuddling up with loved ones on the couch, and of course Brunswick Stew! The Fall Festival was a huge success, and through the sale of that Brunswick Stew, we made over $1,000 for missions giving that will help others in the community throughout the next year! Again, the unity being shown at Oakland Baptist is growing with each and every season, and it s such a wonderful thing to watch and be a part of! The love that undergirds our unity is what led Ms. Anne Wells to join the church family just a few weeks ago! As we move into the future together, continue to think of new ways to share the love of Christ and encourage unity in the church, in your family, in your workplace and throughout your community! It s all about teamwork, built on love! I love you all! Blessings of peace, Nate In this issue: Page 1 Pastor Pen Page 2 Articles Newsletter / Bulletin Deadlines & Notes Database Changes Contact info Page 3-4 Birthdays Anniversaries Notes & Announcements Page 5 Assignments & Calendar of Events Page 6 Prayer Concerns & Reminders 1

For sun to light and warm our days, For stars that glow at night, For trees of green and skies of blue, And puffy clouds of white. We're grateful for our eyes that see The beauty all around, For arms to hug, and legs to walk, And ears to hear each sound. The list of all we're grateful for Would fill a great big book; Our thankful hearts find new delights Everywhere we look! At our Fall Festival last month, we raised almost $500 to fill Flood Buckets for Virginia Baptist Disaster Relief. Those funds plus your generous donations allowed us to fill 9 buckets! I also want to personally thank you from the bottom of my heart for the very generous Pastor Appreciation gift. Your love and support mean so much to me and my family. It s hard to believe God lead me here two years ago this month - in many ways it feels like it has been longer. You have made Oakland feel like home and for that we are truly thankful! We are looking forward to being a part of the team that volunteers with Goochland Cares starting this month! Blessings, Shelby Happy Anniversary!
