As I specified a few weeks ago, being Christian is a full-time, high impact calling. Being Christian is not for onlookers, we are called to performance. Today s Gospel is one of those that many people find difficult, the unnamed man stating that he has followed all the 10 commandments, was expecting accolades instead was told something he did not want to hear; give up all that he owns and follow Jesus. Jesus teaches us that wealth, power, and worth generate a false security, they are misleading! Material wealth and power make us feel like we have accomplished something which takes our focus off Jesus. Discipleship demands absolute devotion, now does that mean we should sell everything like the literal reading states? No, Jesus is telling us not to dwell on the material world. Attaining salvation is beyond human capability and depends completely on the goodness of God. None of us can get through that eye of the needle without God s grace and love, we need that to obtain salvation and then we can jump right through that eye. Amen? Love, Deacon Mark Stewardship: Time, Talent & Treasure Offertory Collection $11,288.99 Attendance: 983 Offertory $7,841.00 Non-Envelope Offertory $1,434.89 On-Line Giving $2,013.10 Total Offertory $11,288.99 St. Vincent de Paul Society In today s Gospel, Jesus says: Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then, come follow me. Have you considered answering the call to help the poor by giving to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul? This week the Society will be collecting at the door after each mass.
