Page 2 Orange County York Rite News June 2010 ORANGE COUNTY COUNCIL No. 14 CRYPTICMASONS Companions: May is going so fast, and it s almost June! The time flies by at a faster and faster rate. Grand Sessions was fun and I was crowned as a Thrice Illustrious Master. It was a beautiful Degree and made me think about my relationship with my dad and how much I loved him and miss him. There were also other degrees (fun degrees) that were conferred at the Grand Sessions, and included the Order of the Golden Poppy, and the Royal order of Zanzibar. A fun time was hade by all. Another big lesson I have learned this year as being an Illustrious Master is when to owe up to problems you have or what your team has to say. Being humble and taking responsibility for yourself and your team is a crucial element in the game called life. My May Meeting didn t go to well for me. My ritual was not at the level it normally is. I made many mistakes because of my nervousness and my lack of study preparation. It took me two years to learn this ritual right, and I worked very hard because ritual doesn t come easy to me. I made Stupid mistakes because of my lack of preparation and nervousness. The energy was not normal. It was a stressed out energy and I felt it especially with the top hat on. The issues facing the council are great. In June we were planning on voting on a time change for the Cryptic Council, but I must inform you that that motion will be withdrawn at the June Assembly. During the June Assembly, we will be conferring the Cryptic Council degree in the month of June, and will conduct business concerning our future meeting schedule. I highly encourage all officers to be ready for our Inspectors official visit, which will take place during the month of September or October. Please be prepared to do your ritual work without using the books. Please contact Chuck Schubert for a practice during the summer months. Page 11 Orange County York Rite News June 2010 FROM THE SECRETARY/RECORDER S DESK Companions and Sir Knights, All of the delinquent 2008-2010 dues notices have gone out to those who are affected. For those of you who have submitted your dues, thank you on behalf of the Companions of O. C. York Rite. For those of you who are still waiting to send in your payment, remember that the special rate that you were notified of will not last past the end of December. Please don t loose this great opportunity to get your dues caught up to date. Remember that for those of you who normally have to skip dinner in order to attend our Monday night meetings, Companion Bob McSherley has offered to provide homemade potato soup before the Chapter meeting in June and also another of his wonderful creations before the Council meeting as well. Please note that once the soup is gone, it s gone so get there by 6:00 pm so as not to miss out. If the Companions enjoy having this quick meal we will try to keep it going again in the fall. Once again, if you or a fellow Companion have experienced any irregularities in your membership please let me know so that I can try to clear-up any errors that exist and restore your confidence in O. C. York Rite. Mark Hoage mshusaac@charter.net Secretary/Recorder Illustrious Master Adam D. Buttons

Page 8 Orange County York Rite News June 2010 Page 5 Orange County York Rite News June 2010 KNIGHT TEMPLAR ORANGE COUNTY COMMANDERY No. 36 Mark Master-- When a Master Mason seeks further Light in Masonry by way of the York Rite, he first learns the lessons of a Mark Master. In the Fellowcraft Degree he found that when he gained admission to the Middle Chamber of the Temple he was entitled to receive wages. As a Mark Master he learns how and from whom to receive those wages, the consequences of claiming another s work as his own, and of attempting to draw wages that are not his due. At this time he will also select and have recorded his own Mark, such as ancient craftsmen selected and used to distinguish their work. Past Master (Virtual) In the early days of Masonry the Royal Arch Degree was considered so important a degree that only Masters or Past Masters of Lodges were permitted to receive it. When Royal Arch Masonry arrived in the United States, this practice was considered too restrictive, and in order to allow more Brethren to share in the Light, the virtual Past Master s Degree was devised. This degree allows a Brother to pass the chair of Solomon, but allows him none of the rights and privileges of an actual Past Master of a Symbolic Lodge. Thus, as a virtual Past Master, he is permitted to qualify for the Degree of Royal Arch Mason. Most Excellent Master When the traveler receives the Most Excellent Master Degree, he participates in the inspiring ceremonies of the final completion of the Temple, and assists in fulfilling the purpose for which the Sanctum Sanctorum, or Holy of Holies, was created. He observes the solemn ceremonies of the dedication and consecration of the Temple by King Solomon, and experiences the awe-inspiring event of the acceptance of Solomon s gift by the Lord. Sir Knights, It is with great honor that we have a Sir Knight in our Commandery who has moved all the way up the ranks, to be installed as the 152 nd Right Eminent Grand Commander for the State of California. After the meeting the Beauceants will be having there reciprocity the same day, and will be honoring their Supreme Committee Member and Supreme Officer with us. This should be a day to remember! The reception will take place around 12 PM after our business meetings. Once again, there is no charge for this event, and reservations are required by 5 PM on June 16 th. For reservations, please contact Jim Sunseri at (714) 536-4536. Fraternally, Sir Knight Charles R. Kelly Eminent Commander
