WORSHIP OF OUR LORD November 18, 2018 Those who only praise God because he does them good should rise to a higher note and give thanks to him because he is good. In the truest sense he alone is good, "There is none good but one, that is God"; therefore in all gratitude the Lord should have the royal portion. If others seem to be good, he is good. If others are good in a measure, he is good beyond measure. When others behave badly to us, it should only stir us up the more heartily to give thanks unto the Lord, because he is good; and when we ourselves are conscious that we are far from being good, we should only the more reverently bless him that "he is good." We must never tolerate an instant's unbelief as to the goodness the Lord; whatever else may be questionable, this is absolutely certain, that Jehovah is good; his dispensations may vary, but his nature is always the same, and always good. Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to a city to dwell in; hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress. He led them by a straight way till they reached a city to dwell in. Let them thank the Lord for His steadfast love, for His wondrous works to the children man! For He satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul He fills with good things. 5 & bb 9 & bb 13 & bb 17 & b b 23 & bb & bb 4 4 Ó F E b. praise; night; faith; grace. fight. grace. WE ACKNOWLEDGE OUR SIN Call To Confession Psalm 86:1-6 Incline your ear, O Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Preserve my life, for I am godly; save your servant, who trusts in you you are my God. Be gracious to me, O Lord, for to you do I cry all the day. Gladden the soul your servant, for to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you. Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace. Corporate Confession Sin from The All-Good in Valley Vision O Searcher Hearts, it is good when you give us a glimpse ourselves. We see that sin is our greatest evil and that you, Lord, are our greatest good. Lord, you are good in making yourself known to us through your Word, the sacraments and prayer. Yet, we confess we ignore your means grace to us, and we ten fail to see you with eyes faith. Lord, you are good in revealing your will for our lives and in guiding us through this fallen world. Yet, we confess that we disbelieve your good plan and that we live in fear. Lord, your providence is good. You provide all that we need. In fact, every good thing comes from you. Yet, we confess that we distrust you. We wrongly believe that you hold back from us, and that you are stingy in blessing us. Lord, there is no doubt your goodness when we look to the cross Jesus Christ. There we see that you did not withhold even your own Son for our sake. You truly have given us all things in Christ Jesus. Lord, forgive our suspicion your good care. Forgive our lack thankfulness for your provision. Thanks be to God Sermon Rev. Jamie MacGregor The Goodness God Nehemiah 12:31-43 (page 406 in the pew Bibles) 31 Then I brought the leaders Judah up onto the wall and appointed two great choirs that gave thanks. One went to the south on the wall to the Dung Gate. 32 And after them went Hoshaiah and half the leaders Judah, 33 and Azariah, Ezra, Meshullam, 34 Judah, Benamin, Shemaiah, and Jeremiah, 35 and certain the priests' sons with trumpets: Zechariah the son

And Ezra the scribe went before them. 37 At the Fountain Gate they went up straight before them by the stairs the city David, at the ascent the wall, above the house David, to the Water Gate on the east. 38 The other choir those who gave thanks went to the north, and I followed them with half the people, on the wall, above the Tower the Ovens, to the Broad Wall, 39 and above the Gate Ephraim, and by the Gate Yeshanah, and by the Fish Gate and the Tower Hananel and the Tower the Hundred, to the Sheep Gate; and they came to a halt at the Gate the Guard. 40 So both choirs those who gave thanks stood in the house God, and I and half the ficials with me; 41 and the priests Eliakim, Maaseiah, Miniamin, Micaiah, Elioenai, Zechariah, and Hananiah, with trumpets; 42 and Maaseiah, Shemaiah, Eleazar, Uzzi, Jehohanan, Malchiah, Elam, and Ezer.
