WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS Misty Rowley PRELUDE Abide with Me Piano William Monk, arr. Kevin Olson CALL TO WORSHIP Misty Rowley We will bless the Lord at all times. God s praise shall continually be in our mouths. Our souls make their boast in the Lord. Let the humble hear and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me; Let us exalt God s name and worship God, together. Adapted from Psalm 34:1-3 *SONGS OF WORSHIP: HOLY, HOLY, HOLY! LORD GOD ALMIGHTY (Hymn 2) (VERSE 1) Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee; Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty! God in three persons, blessed Trinity! (VERSE 2) Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee, casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea; cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee, which wert and art, and evermore shalt be. (VERSE 3) Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hides thee, though the eye of sinful flesh thy glory may not see; only thou art holy; there is none beside thee, perfect in power in love and purity. (VERSE 4)
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! All thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea; Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty! God in three persons, blessed Trinity. TIME OF PRAYER O HOW HE LOVES YOU AND ME! (Hymn #479) O how he loves you and me, O how he loves you and me; he gave his life what more could he give? O how he loves you, O how he loves me, O how he loves you and me! Prayer of Confession Your saving love in Jesus Christ is so much a part of our lives that we take it for granted, O God. We know that you call us to live in imitation of that love, but we confess to you that we are often sidetracked in different directions. It is easier to focus on ourselves and our material desires than it is to seek out others in need of your life altering grace. Forgive us, we pray, for our wrongheaded priorities. Help us to be those who offer your limitless care in Christ to all in need; We pray in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. [Silent Prayer]
Declaration of Forgiveness People of God, hope in the Lord! God in Christ has forgiven you! God has redeemed us from all our iniquities through Christ, who loved us and gave himself for us as living bread for the life of the world. Peter Blank OFFERING OF OURSELVES & OUR GIFTS Karen Colvin Reprinted by permission of Westminster John Knox Press from Feasting on the Word worship Companion. 2015 Invitation to the Offering
Christ loved us and gave himself up for us. As beloved children let us be imitators of God, presenting our gifts as a fragrant offering and sacrifice, through Christ our Lord. *Doxology Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below Praise him above ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. Prayer of Thanksgiving/Dedication We are so grateful to you, Lord God, for all that you have given us: This wonderful Earth, the love of family and friends, the joys of living in community. Most of all, we are grateful for the gift of your Son, who came among us as your Bread of Heaven, filling our hearts with your saving love. Help us to share that Bread with those in need; under your Mercy, even Jesus Christ our Lord, in whose name we pray. Amen. You may bring your offering and/or light a candle at the front or back of the sanctuary. Offertory Reverie on Draw Me Nearer Piano William Doane, arr. Hugh Livingston Jr. READING OF THE SCRIPTURES Diana Blank Ephesians 5:1-2 (NIV) 1 Follow God s example, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. John 6:35 (NIV) 35 Then Jesus declared, I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
John 6:41-51 (NIV) 41 At this the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said, I am the bread that came down from heaven. 42 They said, Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, I came down from heaven? 43 Stop grumbling among yourselves, Jesus answered. 44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets: They will all be taught by God. [a] Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from him comes to me. 46 No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father. 47 Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. 50 But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. MESSAGE Rev. Peter Blank Heavenly Bread for Real Hunger *SONG OF WORSHIP: O COME TO ME THE MASTER SAID (Hymn #442) (VERSE 1)
