The Mission of the Diocese of Olympia We envision the Diocese of Olympia as one of the healthiest places in the Episcopal Church, growing and moving through the opportunity and challenge that come with being situated in the None Zone of the largely unchurched Pacific Northwest. We are a diocese on solid footing, with open communication and a resolve to live together in Christ and with Christ. We see our differences as blessings and we are committed to sharing those blessings with the world around us. We believe the core purpose of a diocese is building up the Body of Christ by living into our Baptismal Covenant and we seek to be more intentional about our Baptismal Identity as people of the Diocese of Olympia. We want to emphasize our baptism through service that reflects the calling we have been given as the church. We continue this year to have our Lenten and Holiday appeals to fund the grants for the ministries transformed by Episcopal Community Action across our diocese. Meeting the needs of our hurting world is the work of the church in establishing God s kingdom. Episcopal Community Action gives us the ability to extend our reach farther. The truth about being human is that we cannot be everywhere, but through our gifts we certainly can be there for countless numbers of God s beloved children who need us. Our diligence, attention, and generosity are the tools we use to support the work of the church being done by the deserving ministries through Episcopal Community Action. As Christian brothers and sisters we are called together into action through the waters and rite of baptism to live our faith responding to human needs. Likewise, as a church and a diocese we are called to live grateful and generous lives in response to what God showers upon us so that these blessings can grace the world around us. The ECA is one way we can put our Baptismal call to generous thanksgiving into action. Eligibility Requirements Episcopal Community Action (ECA) was started by our diocesan convention in 1988 as our way to corporately reach out to those in human need in Western Washington where we have Episcopal connections through congregations, the diocese, cooperative mission (between 2 or more Episcopal entities), and/or ecumenical mission (between Episcopal entity and other entities). We are focused on meeting human needs through ministries that focus their attention in the areas of meeting basic human need; children, youth, young adults, and families; promoting spiritual/physical health and independence; and providing shelter/housing and addressing homelessness. 1
