Holy Land 2016 - Next year in Jerusalem! A pilgrimage of Greensboro First United Methodist Church and friends Tour Hosts: Mike and Karen Morgan with Chad and Ashlee Swift Introduction Meeting: Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. South Campus at Carey Station Conference Room Essential information: When is the trip? March 2-11, 2016 Where will we be going? We will fly into Tel Aviv and will spend nights in Netanya (on the Mediterranean coast), Tiberias (on the Sea of Galilee), and Jerusalem What will we see and do? See brochure overview What will be the cost of the trip and when will we need to pay for it? Initial registration fee: $300 due when ready ($30 discount by 9/2/15) Deposit: $1,500 due November 18, 2015 Final amount due January 2, 2016 (You will receive a statement from EO) Total cost including airfare, tours, hotels, gratuities, breakfast and Dinner each day: $3, 596 (includes airfare from Atlanta)

Additional optional expenses include lunches, shopping, travel insurance, love offering for guide and bus driver. Checks should be made out to: Educational Opportunities. After your initial deposit, you will receive statements from EO. Who will go? Greensboro First UMC members, relatives, friends, individuals or small groups from other churches who would like to join our group. What should we know about this trip? This is the ultimate Bible Study Field Trip! It is a guided tour, so we will spend a good bit of time on a (nice) tour bus and will get on and off the bus several times each day. Passports are required and must be valid through six months after the return date. You will not need immunizations. There will be a lot of walking, and a few of the sights will have stairs without optional elevators. Staying on the bus is an option in cases where there is extensive walking or stairs. We will start each day s tour early, but will arrive back at the hotel late in the afternoon in time for dinner and rest. Getting to Israel requires a 13 hour flight with possible layovers. We will fly through the night and be fairly exhausted when we get there, but your excitement will somehow exceed your exhaustion! Israel does not have many American fast food places and Israeli food is not our country cooking. However, the hotel buffets have a multitude of choices with salad bars and wonderful desserts that we will enjoy at breakfast and dinner. Lunch choices will be more limited. Our hotels in Netanya and Tiberias will be nice enough with clean rooms, clean water, climate control and elevators. Our hotel in Jerusalem will probably be very nice.

You will be safe. You will be a part of a journey that can t be described with mere words, but it will be amazing, insightful, exciting, Holy, WONDERFUL! Bible Land Exploration (Customized) Rev. Michael and Karen Morgan, Sr # 50197 March 2 11, 2016 Atlanta Day 1 Depart Your pilgrimage begins as you depart the USA on an overnight flight. Day 2 Arrive and overnight in Netanya You will be welcomed at the Tel Aviv airport by our representative before you transfer to your hotel in Netanya to enjoy dinner and overnight. Day 3 Caesarea, Mount Carmel, Megiddo, Nazareth Visit the Roman Aqueduct and Theatre at Caesarea, a center of the early Christians where Paul was imprisoned for two years. Here, an angel visited Cornelius, the first Gentile convert; (Acts 10) and Paul was imprisoned for 2 years (Acts 23: 22). View Mount Carmel and recall Elijah s dramatic victory over the prophets of Baal (I Kings 18). Follow an ancient caravan route through the Jezreel Valley to Tel Megiddo, an exciting archeological dig with layers of twenty different cities, all built on top of each other. Conclude your day at Nazareth, Jesus boyhood home (Luke 26). Day 4 Sea of Galilee - Valley of the Doves, Magdala, Lunch at Tanureen, Boat Ride, Capernaum, Tabgha, Mount of Beatitudes, Ancient Boat Pass through the Valley of the Doves on your way towards the Sea of Galilee. This was a major pathway in the time of Christ, and He and his disciples passed through this valley as they walked the Galilee. In Magdala, once home to Mary Magdalene, visit a recently discovered firstcentury synagogue. Enjoy lunch together at Tanureen (included) before crossing the waters of the Sea of Galilee on a very special boat ride, complete with an onboard worship service. Visit Capernaum, center of Jesus ministry in the Galilee, and visit the synagogue built on the site where Jesus taught (Matt. 4:13, 23). On the Mount of Beatitudes, contemplate the Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5-7). Explore the Church of the Fish and the Loaves at Tabgha, traditional site of the feeding of the 5,000 (Luke 9:10). At Kibbutz Nof Ginosar, see the 2,000-year-old Ancient Boat, a rare example of the kind of boat in which Jesus might have sailed. Day 5 Tel Dan, Caesarea Philippi, Golan Heights, Bethsaida At the ruins of Tel Dan, see the altar built by King Jeroboam I (I Kings 12:25-30) and learn where the House of David fragment from the First Temple Period was discovered. Continue on to

Caesarea Philippi, where Peter told the Lord, "You are the Christ!" (Matt.16). A scenic drive along the Golan Heights will give you some beautiful views of Syria and Jordan as well as Israel. Day 6 Jericho, Qumran, Masada, Dead Sea As you pass through the Jordan River Valley, stop at Kasr El Yehud, the traditional site of the Baptism of Jesus (John 1). Head to Jericho to visit the ruins of the ancient city Joshua conquered (Josh. 6:20). Off in the distance, you can see the traditional site of the Temptation of Jesus (Matt. 4:1). Next stop is Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in 1947 by a Bedouin shepherd. Enjoy a visit to intriguing Masada, the spectacular mountaintop fortress built by Herod that later became the final tragic stronghold of the Jewish rebellion against the Romans. Ride the cable car to the top to explore the fortress and look down upon the remains of the Roman camps and siege ramp below. On the way back to Jerusalem, stop at the shores of the Dead Sea, the lowest spot on earth, for an opportunity to take a quick dip in the mineralladen waters. Day 7 Shepherd's Fields, Bethlehem, Ein Karem, Yad Vashem, Israel Museum/Model In Bethlehem, gaze out over Shepherds Field and visit the cave revered as Jesus birthplace (Matt. 1: 18-25). Visit the Church of the Nativity, built above the cave and considered the world s oldest functioning church (Matt. 1: 18-25). Travel to Ein Karem, birthplace of John the Baptist and where Mary visited Elisabeth (Luke 1: 26-40). In Jerusalem, visit Yad Vashem, Israel s Holocaust Memorial, with its poignant exhibits honoring the millions of lives lost during the Holocaust. Explore the Israel Museum with its First Century Model of the City of Jerusalem. Another highlight is the museum s Shrine of the Book exhibit showcasing the Dead Sea Scroll book of Isaiah. Day 8 Mount of Olives, Garden of Gethsemane, Mt. Zion, Western Wall, Southern Steps Stand on the Mount of Olives for a remarkable view of Jerusalem (the Golden City); Jesus stood here before ascending into heaven forty days after His resurrection (Acts 1:9-12). Walk the Palm Sunday Road down to the Garden of Gethsemane (Matt. 26:36). Then walk through the Kidron Valley, much as Jesus, the disciples and the pilgrims to the Temple did. Continue to Mount Zion to visit the House of the High Priest Caiaphas, where Jesus was questioned the night of His betrayal (Matt. 26:57). Spend time in prayer at the Western Wall (the only remnant of the Second Temple of Jerusalem) and sit on the Teaching Steps where Jesus taught. Day 9 Temple Mount, Pool of Bethesda, Via Dolorosa, Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Garden Tomb Conditions permitting, walk the Temple Mount, once the site of the Temple of Solomon and home to the Dome of the Rock. See where Jesus healed on the Sabbath at the Pool of

Bethesda (John 5: 1-31), Walk the Via Dolorosa ("the Way of the Cross") to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, built over the traditional sites of the crucifixion and burial of Jesus. At the Garden Tomb, share communion together and experience the reality of the Resurrection.
