05-06-2018 PARISH LIFE Page 3 TODAY S READINGS First Reading Second Reading Gospel Reading Acts 10:25-26, 34-35, 44-48 1 John 4:7-10 John 15:9-17 Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ: A Message from Father Don Anyone who happened to be in a selfish mood when they heard today s gospel could not get away from it. Love is everywhere in Jesus conversation with his friends at the Last supper. He gives them and us his memorable commandment: Love one another as I love you. It sounds simple. But he reminds us that loving as He does involves a willingness to lay down one s life for one s friends. During Lent we saw this love of Jesus in action. Now during the Easter season we rejoice that such love is victorious over sin and death. This love Jesus is talking about requires us to make choices everyday. It is more than a passing feeling, it is a way of life. Loving choices are at times difficult and they don t always feel good. But Jesus has given us the example. How do we live it? We begin by selfgiving. The more we give of self without asking anything in return, the more love we have to give. The more we learn His lesson of giving of ourselves, the more we tap into the love that is God. This week spend some quiet time discerning how you experience God s love in your life. Determine how giving of a person you are. Together as a family decide how you can live a life filled with love for one another. Congratulations to Father Daniel Daza-Jaller on his Ordination to the Priesthood! May God sustain you in celebrating the Sacraments, in proclaiming the Gospel and in consecrating your life to God for the good of the people entrusted to your care. 3
