Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness. (Opening quote from the Thanksgiving Proclamation signed by George Washington, President of the United States of America, October 3, 1789) We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown. ~ Abraham Lincoln, at Thanksgiving time during the Civil War, 1863 We Knights of Columbus humbly pray to the Lord Jesus Christ and our Mother Mary Amen. Happy Thanksgiving, Vito Abramowicz, Grand Knight State Officers, 2018-2019 District Deputy Douglas Blair 321-412-2191 dd30flakofc@gmail.com District Warden Robert Burgess

Forward any comments/suggestions to council.editor@kofc3746.com and visit www.kofc3746.com Soul Food for Thought November/December Message Being a Knight for the Eucharist It is a Knight s duty to be of service and be humble in his service. Council Spiritual Advisor Message: St. Teresa of Avila, one of the three women doctors of the church, is renowned for her deep and mystical gifts of contemplation. She has written of her contemplation on humility and detachment of one s self. In her book the Interior Castle, her reflections on the Eucharist are utterly profound. She asks our Father why He would desire to see Jesus being crushed and suffer every day in wretched hands. If any of us who might have bouts of pride from time to time, remember your sins and how when receiving the Eucharist in your hands you are crushing Christ with your wretched hands because of those sins. This reminds us of the need to strive for sinless character so that we may be a pure vessel for the reception of Our Lord. A pure vessel made by humility and determination to live a sinless life. We must fight against sin in service to Our Lord with the desire to help relieve Him of His suffering. Yours in Christ, Jim Fern Our main war as a Christian is against sin. Fight against sin like a Knight for Christ in humble service to Him. US ARMED SERVICES VETERAN BROTHER KNIGHTS THANK YOU & WELCOME HOME! Life Insurance as a Gift?? The initial reaction for many people when you mention life insurance as a gift is a quick step back and a questioning stare. How morbid, they may think quietly or aloud. While it may seem that way when you first mention it, life insurance is a really thoughtful gift that can be a financial life preserver in tough times. The problem with life insurance is the general perception. Many think of life insurance only in cases where someone dies. Life insurance should, in fact, be thought of as a precautionary protective measure for a family unit. The purchase of this product can mean saving your home, sending your children to college, and preserving your spouse s quality of life in the event of your death. One of the times you may want to purchase life insurance for someone is when a family has a new baby. It s a great, low-cost way to set money aside for the future (i.e. college tuition, housing, business start-up, etc.). Of greater importance, it ensures these children will have insurance as adults, in case an illness later in life makes him or her uninsurable. Newlyweds are also ideal recipients for life insurance. As they join their lives and financial responsibilities, young couples need to make sure that their early investments are fully protected. If something were to happen to one of them, the other may be faced with serious financial hardship. A life insurance policy is an ideal way to ensure their future and protect their assets. As nontraditional as it may be, life insurance is a wise and caring gift to purchase for many people. I look forward to meeting with each of you to discuss your family s needs. Call me today!!!
