Membership Requirements and Regulations
INTRODUCTION The COLORADO MORMON CHORALE is established as a premier-quality chorus of mixed voices selected from the regions of the metropolitan Denver area of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Chorale is to be an ambassador for the Church and operates under the direction of appointed priesthood officers. The purpose of the Colorado Mormon Chorale is: 1. To represent the Church in a positive manner, enabling all who listen to partake of the Spirit that accompanies uplifting music. 2. To provide an avenue for member-missionary service. 3. To develop, through public affairs, relationship with other groups in the community. 4. To proclaim through great music and narrative the divinity of Christ, the restoration of the Church, and the blessings of the Gospel. 5. To support and encourage increased participation in ward and stake choirs and to help sustain the Church music program established in the wards and stakes of the area. 6. To enable the Saints to magnify their musical talents through participation in a musical ensemble which strives to achieve the highest standards of excellence. MEMBERSHIP Although the Colorado Mormon Chorale is a volunteer organization, membership requires the discipline and individual responsibility of a professional. REQUIREMENTS Members of the Chorale shall: 1. Be 17 years of age or older. 2. Have a developed mature voice that blends with an ensemble. 3. Be certified in writing by their bishops that they support their ward and stake choirs, and be re-certified annually thereafter. 4. Audition for admission, with re-auditions one year after admission and every three years thereafter. 5. Maintain a minimum of eighty percent attendance at rehearsals and attend all scheduled concerts. 6. Maintain Church standards of dress and conduct. 7. Purchase their own major scores (music costing more than $3.00 per copy). Each person will be accountable for replacing all music lost or not turned in upon leave. 8. Provide their own uniform apparel at their own cost, as suggested by the Wardrobe Committee. All concerts will require a uniform dress. 9. Be required to attend dress rehearsal in order to sing in a corresponding performance. (On rare occasions, an exception to this policy may be made by the member's Section Leader and one of the Directors.) 10. Call their Section Leaders if they are going to be absent for any reason. 11. Perform additional duties when asked to do so by the Chorale Executive Committee. 12. Non-LDS individuals may join the Chorale, so long as they adhere to the same standards as LDS singers. The Executive Committee will review their applications on a case-by-case basis.
Membership Requirements and Operational Procedures Some of the items summarized below are discussed with more detail in the body of the charter. A copy of these guidelines is to be given to each new Chorale member at the time he or she is accepted into the organization 1. The conduct of each member of the Chorale should reflect the standards of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 2. Eighty percent (80%) is the minimum attendance requirement for rehearsals. We would like you to attend all performances. In addition, dress rehearsals must be attended in order to sing in concerts. Exceptions may be granted by the Conductor. 3. Active ward/stake choir participation must be certified by each Chorale member's bishop. A form verifying this support is distributed annually by the Audition Coordinator. It is each member's responsibility to have his/her bishop sign it. 4. Members are encouraged to prepare themselves spiritually, mentally and musically for rehearsals and performances. 5. Rehearsals of the Chorale should be held at 495 S. Zuni, as directed by the Area Authority Seventy. The rehearsal starts at 6:55 PM and terminates at 9:30 PM. Dress rehearsals will be from 6:55 PM to 10:00 PM, unless otherwise stated by the Conductor. 6. Members of the Chorale are responsible for music assigned to them and shall pay for any music lost through negligence. In addition each member will be expected to purchase music scores costing more than $3.00. Such music then becomes the member's personal property. 7. Apparel of the Chorale shall be recommended by the Wardrobe Committee and approved by the Executive Committee. It is the responsibility of each member to pay for his/her own apparel. 8. Eighteen is the nominal number of performances per year. The year runs from September to July, with Christmas Holidays off. 9. Re-auditions occur one year after Chorale admission and once every two years thereafter. 10. Resignations or requests for a leave of absence should be conveyed through a written letter to one's Section Leader. 11. The Chorale shall be a volunteer, community organization with no paid positions. Musical/administrative officers are a call/set a part position of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It is administered under the direction of a Priesthood Advisor and the Public Affairs in the Area. 12. The rehearsal time shall be the responsibility of the conductor or the Associate conductor, one of whom should be present at all rehearsals. 13. Performance dates, times and places will be conveyed to the stakes of the Denver metropolitan area for inclusion in stake calendars. Concert tickets shall be sold by each Chorale member to ward members or anyone in the area wishing to attend paid concerts. 14. Chorale membership should number between eighty and 150 members.
COLORADO MORMON CHORALE PERFORMANCE DRESS CODE We represent the Lord's church when performing. As such, we want to look our very best in appearance and demeanor. Individual perfection is secondary to the perfection of the group. Please work with the wardrobe committee to follow the policies below. GENERAL Concert clothing should be cleaned and pressed for each performance. Shoes are to be cleaned and polished. No after shave, cologne or perfume. Please use deodorant. FITTING/ALTERATIONS Fittings and alterations must be done by a wardrobe committee member unless otherwise approved. WOMEN Miscellaneous: Hair accessories must blend in with your hair color. Nothing shiny/patterned, no large bows. Plain, black pumps (closed toe/heel, no straps/buckles/bows/jewels/shiny or patterned leather, no canvas). Please wear make-up -- at minimum lipstick and rouge. Black formal gown -- Cost $60.00 (new) Used garments (if available) are $50.00. Off-Black sheer hose (no patterns). Small pearl post earrings. No bigger than the nail on your little finger. Pearl strand necklace will be provided at each concert, and must be returned when it is finished. Blue dress Cost $60.00 (new) Dresses are new-used garments are not currently available 'L eggs' or 'Just My Size' brand taupe hose. Small gold post earrings. (No loops, no drop/dangle, no patterns). Gold v-chain necklace -- $15.00 MEN Miscellaneous: Black dress socks and black dress shoes. Black Tuxedo -- Cost Varies Tuxedo can be purchased at any tuxedo shop.
