LIGHTHOUSE: Addressing today s issues with Biblical Truth I enjoy reading blogs from Tim Challies. He offers some great words on responding to criticism. Expect it. Criticism is inevitable. We should expect criticism because we are sinful, so far from the holiness God requires and so far from the holiness we desire. If anything we ought to be surprised that we receive so little criticism. Examine it. When we receive criticism, and especially when that criticism stings or seems outrageous, we need to examine it to see if it is true. It may be faulty or the person might be showing us exactly what we need to hear. Humility admits that others may see what we cannot or will not see ourselves. Prayerfully examine the criticism to see if it is true and fair. Endure it. There will be times the criticism will be painful but true. We need to endure it and respond by making changes in our lives. There are other times when the criticism is unwarranted or unfair. In either case, we need to keep ourselves from lashing out at the one who criticized us. We must resist the temptation to gossip about the person or to sever the relationship. Far better, we must endure criticism just as Christ Jesus patiently endured all the criticism that was heaped upon Him. As always, He is our model. Taken from and mostly copied from http://www.challies.com/christian-living/3-tips-for-responding-to-criticism. If there are topics you would like discussed from a biblical perspective, please feel free to contact me through email at mbailey@strong-rock.com.
