Maple Street Congregational Church United Church of Christ No matter who you are or where you are on your faith journey, you are welcome here! May 29, 2016 Memorial Day Sunday 10:00 am Childcare is offered for 3 and under during Worship at Kid s Korner in the hall behind the Sanctuary. PRELUDE (A time for meditation in preparation for worshipping God) WORDS OF WELCOME CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: We are called to be witnesses of God s love People: Call us to love one another, to love our neighbor as ourselves. Leader: We are called to be witnesses of God s justice People: Let us stand with the oppressed and speak out for those in need. Leader: We are called to be witnesses of God s peace People: Keep us to the path of peacemaking and to be bearers of peace in the world. We are called to be witnesses of God. Come, let us follow Jesus, who leads us into God s ways of love, justice and peace. Amen! --Rev. Mindi, Rev-o-lution *OPENING HYMN *INVOCATION OF GOD S PRESENCE (IN UNISON) God of grace, truth, and love, we see You at work all around us. We see You at work in the first responders who risk their own lives to save others. We see You at work in the arms that surround us, in the helping hands that reach out, in the friends who comfort us in silence when no words will speak the truth of what we have experienced. God, we are mourning in this time of struggle and disaster. We are questioning why so many bad things have happened. Help us to resist the easy answers and the dismissive excuses, and instead, help us to be the response of love, grace and peace in a world that seems broken and lost. --Rev. Mindi, Rev-o-lution *Please stand as you are able.

In the name of Jesus, who brings us together, who binds us together, who continues to hold us together, we pray *THE LORD S PRAYER (IN UNISON) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. *RESPONSE Tune: Red No. 241 Spirit divine, attend our prayers and make this world thy home; Descend with all thy gracious powers, o come, great Spirit, come!
