Together We Can Reach Together We Can Reach the World! 1 BILLION People Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation Mark 16:15 APRIL 4TH, MEETING #1: CONCERNING THE VISION A total of 53 leaders from church denominations, mission agencies and business communities gathered in Orlando, FL on April 4, 2018. At the meeting, which was jointly organized and facilitated by Global Outreach Day (G.O.D.) and Cru, the leaders deliberated on the vision to mobilize 100 million Christians and reach one billion people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ in May 2020, resulting in one million additional churches and missional communities. Obviously, these numbers are totally in the Lord s hands. The Content of the meeting The meeting started with Steve Douglass, president of Cru, welcoming the participants and explaining the desired result of the meeting. After a brief introduction of the participants, Dave Gibson, Pastor of Missions and Evangelism at Grace Church, Eden Prairie, MN encouraged the participants to do all that is necessary to take the Good News of our Lord Jesus to all the nations. Then Werner Nachtigal and Beat Bauman, leaders of G.O.D. and the custodians of the vision to mobilize 100 million Christians and reach one billion people, shared the genesis and the progress of the vision. Bekele Shanko, the chairman of GACX (a Global Alliance for Church Multiplication) and vice president for Cru, explained how the vision of planting one million churches was added to the vision. In addition to passionately endorsing the vision, various leaders expressed their commitments to work together in the Body of Christ and mobilize people and other resources toward the fulfilment of this unprecedented task. Included at the meeting were Luis Palau Evangelistic Association, Jesus Film, Mission America, Billy Graham organization, Trinity Broadcasting Network, Church of God, Southern Baptist, Pentecostal Charismatic Churches of North America (PCCNA), Global Media Outreach, Anglican Church, Global Kingdom Network, American Bible Society, National Day of Prayer, International Prayer Council, World Evangelical Alliance, Outreach Inc. and other like minded groups. Beforehand, commitments to be involved already came from, YWAM, Nic Vujicic (Life without Limbs), Christ for all Nations (CfaN), Evangelical Alliance of Africa and the list goes on. ENDORSEMENTS About 93% of Christians are not sharing their faith. We are desperate. We want to start a massive movement. We want Go 2020, which we also call Miracle in May, to be a revolution of the redeemed at the grassroots level, where every church is sharing the Good News to their neighbors. Jeff Farmer, PCCNA I serve on the board of the Full Gospel Businessmen Global Forum representing one million men. God is doing something here and we want to be about our Father s business. God can use each and everyone of us. Bill Keith, BMF USA We have over one million members here in North America and seven million globally. This opportunity will help change our focus. We want to see Christians from being church members to disciples of Jesus, people who are making more disciples. Mark Swank, Church of God Page 2
Group Work Together We Can Reach the World! Key to this meeting was to share and see if there would be real buy in and a commitment not to join a strategy but take part in a movement. After the vision-casting, endorsements and prayer, the participants were divided into seven groups to discuss the following four questions: 1. Is God calling His Church to mobilize 100 million Christians to reach 1 billion people in May 2020? Can we also dream to plant 1 million churches in the year 2020? 2. What would it take for us, the Body of Christ, to see this happen? 3. What do you envision to be your and your organization s major contribution toward this significant global evangelization effort? 4. What critical next steps will you take, and recommend, within the next six months? According to the reports presented by the seven groups, the participants have agreed to pray, mobilize people and resources from their respective organizations, and work together in the Body of Christ for the glory of God. MORE ENDORSEMENTS Such vision can only be accomplished through prayer and partnerships. We must pray, lead our organizations to pray, and partner with one another. This is an opportunity for every organization to find its place in gathering the harvest. Jeff Gowler, Global Media Outreach Jesus prayed for us to be one as He and the Father are one. If Jesus prayed this prayer, then He wants to answer this prayer. From that perspective, working together is a must for us. William Beasley, The Green Movement Next Steps 1. The project name was Harvest 2020 in its first phase. It has later been renamed in the process, changing to Go 2020, referring to Go and make disciples as well as the initials of Global Outreach. 2. Each participant will share the vision in their organizations and begin with the necessary preparations. 3. The implementation might look like what is described in Nehemiah chapter 3 where each group is building the section in front of them, but all of us interconnected. We have over 1,500 Cru staff working with about 25,000 church planters globally. We have already communicated the vision to leaders from 90 countries. Working with GACX members and the rest of the Body of Christ, we will work toward planting an additional one million churches in 2020. Bekele Shanko, GACX 4. It will be necessary to share the vision at every important gathering such as Mission Nexus, FTT, Hope, Together, GACX, Urbana, GAFCON, conferences of church denominations, etc. 5. Some critical task forces, such as Prayer, Online Ministries, Media & Communication, Research & Information, Mobilization, and Church Planting, will be set up at a global level. 6. A regular communication on important developments will be sent to all the leaders. Page 3

Together We Can Reach Together We Can Reach the World! 1 BILLION People Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation Mark 16:15 GO 2020 PHILOSOPHY OF ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE Global Outreach Day has sought to be a movement from its inception. The Lord has used various denominations, ministries, local churches and networks to mobilize their constituencies to be involved. The movement has grown because many partners have owned the vision and the implementation and have utilized their structures to motivate, equip, etc. As G.O.D. contemplates broadening the focus in 2020 from a day to a month, the movement will need to continue to involve partners who own and implement among their respective members, in their own way and using their own strategies, trainings and materials where possible. The G.O.D. historical evangelistic emphases have generally had two organizational components: 1. To inspire mobilization 2. To facilitate implementation It seems reasonable to assume and project that Go 2020 will have those as well. To Inspire Motivation G.O.D. leadership only has so much time and credibility to inspire/motivate all segments of the Body of Christ. Therefore, it is very helpful to find influential leaders who share the vision and endorse the movement to their organizations and beyond. These same people have a great deal of wisdom/advice to offer. Most often it has proven helpful to form advisory boards made up of a number of these advisors and endorsers. Go 2020 has already formed a Global Advisory Board and is working toward establishing similar groups at the continental and national levels, as needed. To Facilitate Implementation In the past G.O.D. emphases we have found that as momentum builds, there is great merit for those involved to be encouraged and informed by what others are doing. A key word to summarize this is sharing. Participating organizations can help one another by sharing: Stories about what God is doing in the respective organizations. Strategies, trainings and materials which seem to be working well. Plans, including major events, which may prove helpful for other organizations to be involved in. Page 6
Together We Can Reach the World! ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE Go 2020 is meant to be more like a movement than an organization. Every church, denomination and ministry can participate in its own way. A light and dynamic organizational structure is facilitating a broad participation. Partner Participating stakeholders like churches, denominations, ministries etc. Global Advisory Board Group of well-known and accepted key people that support the vision through endorsing, making connections etc. Global Leadership Team Giving direction, provide vision, processes, structure, motivation. People: Steve Douglass, President Cru Werner Nachtigal, President G.O.D. Bekele Shanko, President GACX Beat Baumann, Intl. Director G.O.D. Dave Gibson, Grace Church Timo Plutschinski, World Evangelical Alliance Global Operations Project Leadership (Beat Baumann) Executive Assistance (Allan Beeber, Tabea Germann and others) Global Task Forces (see following pages) Continental/Regional Advisory Board Key leaders and influencers promoting Go 2020, making connections Continental/Regional Facilitators Facilitators to connect churches and ministries with Go 2020 National Team National Coordinator and Vice Coordinators National Work Groups Regional Coordination (geographical regions, cities etc.) Motivating and Helpful Structures for Involved Christians We all want Go 2020 to involve as many Christians as possible and be implemented in the best way possible. The existing structures of partners in Go 2020 should carry the main weight of the actual implementation. However, some additional structure can help, in case it doesn t unduly restrict or demotivate the involvement. These additional structures are intended to multiply scope and effectiveness and to inform, involve, equip and empower Christians. Page 7

Go 2020 National Teams Together We Can Reach the World! Building upon existing National Teams of Global Outreach Day in countries where they are already established and developing teams in new countries. Leaders responsible for evangelism from different denominations and ministries work together in a joint effort to mobilize and train every church and believer. National teams develop focused Work Groups for Prayer, Mobilization, Church planting, etc. National Team Structure Template of a national mobilization and collaboration structure that can be adapted. Work Groups: Advisory Board National Team National Coordinator National Vice Coordinator Mobilization, Training Media GO Movement Children, Youth Printed Resources Prayer Discipleship «More impact through collaboration and unity.» Core Team: National Coordianators Coordinators + + Work Coordiantors Work Group Coordinators National Vice Coordinator Church Planting Finances The coordination for some of the Global Task Forces could be assigned already, while others are still in a working progress over the coming weeks. Beat Baumann has been assigned to lead the Global Operations. A team is process to be build for the USA. The creation of the team and network is in progress. A first national team meeting took place in June. PRAYER REQUESTS: Building Task Forces with Inspiring Leaders With inspiring motivation it usually proves very helpful to form operations boards and/or task forces consisting of key leaders from denominations, ministries, etc. which are actively implementing the evangelistic emphasis. We expect those kind of structures will be even more helpful in a one-month-long emphasis. Page 9
