Sermon Outline Defining Our Mission part 1 Love God Love Others Love the World Mark 12:28-30 (NLT), One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, Of all the commandments, which is the most important? Jesus replied, The most important commandment is this: Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. John Piper, The weakness of our hunger for God is not because he is unsavory, but because we keep ourselves stuffed with other things If you don t feel strong desires for the manifestation of the glory of God, it is not because you have drunk deeply and are satisfied. It is because you have nibbled so long at the table of the world that your soul is stuffed with small things and there is no room for the great things of God. Max Lucado, God rewards those who seek him. Not those who seek doctrine or religion or systems or creeds. Many settle for these lesser passions, but the reward goes to those who settle for nothing less than Jesus himself. And what is the reward? What awaits those who seek Jesus? Nothing short of the heart of Jesus. It begins with a willingness and a desire to give ourselves to the one who gave Himself for us John Piper, Take all of your longing and focus it on God until he satisfies it completely.
Sermon Outline Psalm 42:1-2 (NCV), As a deer thirsts for streams of water, so I thirst for you, God. I thirst for the living God. When can I go to meet with him? A.W. Tozer, The sovereign God wants to be loved for himself and honored for himself, but that is only a part of what he wants. The other part is that he wants us to know that when we have him, we have everything It continues as we become broken people Proverbs 4:23, Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Ephesians 2:1-2 (MSG), It wasn't so long ago that you were mired in that old stagnant life of sin. You let the world, which doesn't know the first thing about living, tell you how to live. Revelation 2:4-5 (NCV), But I have this against you: You have left the love you had in the beginning. So remember where you were before you fell. Change your hearts and do what you did at first. Colossians 3:1-3, Since you were raised from the dead with Christ, aim at what is in heaven, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. Think only about the things in heaven, not the things on earth. Your old sinful self has died, and your new life is kept with Christ in God. Reflection
