Post Mission Trip Get Together Thank you to Orlando and Judy for hosting and for sharing authentic Puerto Rican food!

This summer, our church had the privilege of hosting this group of young people and their leaders! On Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, our building was filled with lots of young and energetic people learning to SHINE!

Thanks to Pastor Deb and our youth volunteers for all of their help in making this happen!

Sunday September 2

Dear Church Family and Friends, On the 22 nd of September we will reach the Autumnal Equinox, where the sun is directly over the equator. Depending upon your location, the length of night and day are supposedly of equal duration. In laymen s terms Summer ends and Fall begins on that date. I do not know about you, but I cannot recall a more hot and humid summer over the past 20 summers that I have served at Highland Park as pastor. The lot behind the Wawa has had waterfowl in it many times this summer, and the lawn crew has had to mow around the lake in the lot on a number of occasions! It calls to mind the phrase, You can t predict the weather! Still, each day the weather channel and meteorologists do their best to do just that! There are some things in life that are unpredictable with any high degrees of certainty! Just because it is Fall, doesn t mean that we ll have Fall-like weather. The truth of the matter is that we, as human beings, like certainty in our planning. But uncertainty is a part of the human condition we do not know what a day will bring to our lives. God knows, but we do not! That is why it is so important to put our trust in the One who holds tomorrow in the palm of His hand. The Song, I Don t Know About Tomorrow, captures this sentiment musically. The chorus goes, Many things about tomorrow, I don t seem to understand. But I know who holds tomorrow and I know who holds my hand. Peace about our good future rests in the knowledge that when we entrust our lives to the LORD, then we can rest assured that we can face whatever life throws at us with the LORD by our side. Seasons and circumstances are forever changing in our world, but God and His Love for us never change. As we read Thessalonians in September, pay close attention to 1 Thessalonians 5:16 18! Set the verses to memory so that God s peace will reign in your life. Blessings, Pastor Bill

A New Way to Give TITHE.LY Download the app from your app store or click the Give button on the church website! (www.highlandparkcog.org) It is really simple. Just use your smart phone to download the app and set up your giving through that. If you wish to give using your computer, just go to our church website and click the Give button on the top right. This will take you to Tithe.ly where you can set up your account. When making your gift, please indicate any additional information or the breakdown of your gift in the memo line. You will receive an e-mail confirmation for your gift. As with any credit card or e-transaction, there are transaction fees involved. There is a 30 cent per transaction charge plus a percentage fee that the church will pay. Bank account transactions are assessed a 1% fee, and credit/debit cards are assessed a 2.9% fee. (American Express, 3.5% fee.) These fees are paid by the church unless you click to indicate you would like to cover them. Whatever you decide, you will be credited for the full amount of your gift. If you need assistance, please contact the church office! Chapter-a-Day Bible 4-Year Bible Reading Program ~ Sept. 2018 Saturday, Oct. 13 Ladies Trip to Lancaster (Watch for sign-up sheet.) 1 Thessalonians 1-5 Ezra 1-10 2 Thessalonians 1-3 Nehemiah 1-12

Dear Church Family, We just want to say a deep-felt thank you to the many, many people of our church family for their prayers, hugs, kind words and donations sent to Children of Promise Scholarships in Tom s Memory. It is comforting to know how much everyone loved him! You are all a blessing, The Kumpel and Albee Families Dear Highland Park Church of God, Thank you for your recent donation to Children of Promise in memory of Tom Kumpel. What a wonderful way to remember a friend and family member. Your gift has been designated+ to a scholarship fund for Eliza Joseph of Tanzania and Bryan Brovo Toro of Columbia. Highland Park Church of God s Sunday School Class sponsors Eliza and Bryan, and these funds will be held for their future higher education. This was Tom s desire. Thank you for helping these two young people work toward their dreams. Tom loved both of these children deeply and wanted the best for them. Thank you for honoring Tom s life through your memorial donation. May God extend His comfort in your loss. Blessings and peace, Paul Maxfield, Executive Director Children of Promise Dear Highland Park Church of God, Thank you for joining Christian Women Connection in the 2017 Christ s Birthday Observance as we proclaimed collectively as a church, Come Lord Jesus, through our prayers, meditations, and giving. Together w prayed with and for each other through Project Prayer. We spent time in devotion and thought through the meditation Journal. We celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ through our gifts by generously contributing to the Christ s Birthday Observance Offering. Thank you for your participation. Christian Women Connection is forever grateful for the wonderful ways you and your congregation have supported the Christ s Birthday Observance Offering. Thanks to everyone in your congregation, ministries around the world will be touched by the tangible ministry of prayer and financial support. We are eternally grateful for your generosity and partnership. We celebrate that your gift of $1,216 is already making a kingdom difference! God bless you for sacrificing, Arnetta McNeese Bailey, Executive Director Christian Women Connection Adult Trip to Sight and Sound The Committee for Adult Social Activities has put together a trip on November 10, 2018 to Sight and Sound in Lancaster, PA, to see the new musical, JESUS. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE It s hard to imagine hope when you feel rejected, guilty or broken. Maybe you ve lost someone. Maybe you ve done something that feels unforgivable. Maybe you ve experienced something unthinkable. Before he became the lead singer of MercyMe, Bart Millard suffered a painful childhood. Abused by his father, Bart built walls around his heart. He couldn t see hope. When you re surrounded by brokenness it s hard to imagine a loving father, complete forgiveness, and eternal restoration But that is what God has for us! If you have NOT seen the movie yet or want to see it again MOVIE NIGHT: I Can Only Imagine Sunday, September 9 th, 7:00 p.m. All invited! Then, join us in I Can Only Imagine growth group Wednesday Nights at 7:00 p.m. at the church as we dare to imagine: September 12 th : A loving Father September 19 th : Forgiveness September 26 th : Redemption October 3 rd : Going Home.
