November 11, 2018 ST. COLUMBANUS CHURCH #481/PAGE 4 ~PASTOR S NOTES~ Today we honor our veterans and we pray for those in the military who are protecting our freedoms here and abroad. I mentioned last week the new church hymnal we will be using beginning in December, named the Pew Missal. I had written that the layout was similar to the Breaking Bread that we now use. There is one major difference: the weekday Masses follow immediately after the Sunday Mass section. The hymns are in the back part of the book, after the weekday Masses and is followed by prayers and the Stations of the Cross. We are still in need of teachers for our Religious Education (CCD) Program. Our Catholic Faith is like the man who finds a pearl of great price and sells all that he has to purchase it. Rather than burying it, we need to spread the Good News of our faith, especially to our children. The best way to learn our faith is by teaching it to others. Last Sunday s first read ing reminds us, Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord. Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole strength. And these words which I command thee this day, shall be in thy heart: And thou shalt tell them to thy children, and thou shalt meditate upon them sitting in thy house, and walking on thy journey, sleeping and rising. (Deut. 6: 4-6) Contact the Rel. Ed. Office to serve our youth in this important duty. Congratulations to the winners of the Knights of Columbus Aid for the Needy Raffle. All the money raised goes to charitable causes. We thank the Knights for their hard work and generous service to our parish and community. A reminder that on Tuesday, November 20, we will hold a special Mass at 7:30 p.m. in memory of all the deceased. Anyone may attend the Mass so invite family, friends, and neighbors to come and pray for our loved ones who have died. Music will be provided by the Metropolitan Catholic Chorale. Two days later, on Thursday, November 22, we will have our annual Thanksgiving Mass at 9 a.m. We will bless the food for your Thanksgiving meal at the Mass. I m sure we all have a lot to be thankful this year so please come and join us for the greatest of Thanksgiving, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. In Jesus and Mary, Fr. Frank Samoylo
