PAUL S SECOND EPISTLE TO THE CORINTHIANS LEARNING HOW TO BE A HEAVENLY CHURCH IN A CARNAL WORLD 2 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER 5:1-8 MEDIA REFERENCE NUMBER SMX802 MAY 19, 2013 THE TITLE OF THE MESSAGE: Tell Me More About Heaven DEVELOPING AND MAINTAINING THE RIGHT HEART FOR HIS MINISTRY Part 3 SUBJECT TOPICALLY REFERENCED UNDER: Heaven, Resurrection, Death, Life, Glory, Eternity Introduction to the Text; 2 nd Corinthians 5:1-8 2 Corinthians 5:1-8 For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, 3 if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. 4 For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. 5 Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. :6 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. Tell Me More About Heaven 1.) We re dying to get there v. 1a 2.) What will we be like there? v. 1a 3.) How long will we be there? v. 1c 4.) We want to be there forever v. 2-3 1

5.) We have so many questions about life v. 4-5 5a.) There is going to be heartache v. 4a 5b.) There is going to be joy v. 4b Where we left off was here in Verse 5 5c.) There is going to be a day v. 5 Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. There Is a M ove In Date = (any day now) John 14:1-2 Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. Your Redemption, Your Sanctification, Your Salvation. << Has been prepared for you by God >> Ephesians 1:3-5 NLT All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms (draw down) because we are united with Christ. 4 Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. Think of It Jesus Christ has been preparing a place In heaven for you and me. While in the meantime - The Holy Spirit has been Preparing Heaven Inside you and me. 2

The Holy Spirit is our Guarantee, And that is the best possible news you could ever know and experience in this life as a Christian. I come with a warranty, no, it s better than a warranty I have a guarantee from God that He will finish me. Ephesians 1:13-14 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. 2 Corinthians 1:21-22 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, 22 who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. I confess, I cannot understand this. I cannot fathom this, but John 14:1-3 implies that God Himself awaits our arrival. That Jesus is expecting us. That there is a holy and pure anticipation with God to have us there with Him. Matthew 26:29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father s kingdom. John 14:17-18 the (Holy) Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. (Jesus comes to us via the Holy Spirit through this guarantee) Tell Me More About Heaven 6.) Because we need to be bold in life v. 6-8 3

The Unstoppable Reality of Eternal Life This knowing is a knowledge that keeps us enroute towards the desired destination = heaven. We Need To Be Bold In Life 6a.) Find out His plan for Your life v. 6 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. while we are at home in the body ( meaning - we ve got stuff to do ) Philippians 1:20-21 according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 1 John 3:19-21 And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. 20 For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. 21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. We Need To Be Bold In Life 6b.) Do what He tells you to do v. 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. Faith is simply this taking God at His word. ( to have faith in God is to believe in what He has said. ) You will never be a happy man or woman unless you surrender to His perfect plan for you. like something awesome arriving in the mail. 4

The True Christian as Opposed to the False Christian, Will never allow themselves to be at ease or comfortable with their own counsel. They will never trust their own heart or thoughts on any matter unless it is in full submission to the Word of God, The Bible, the Whole Bible and nothing but the Bible. False Teacher - Naim Ateek When confronted with a difficult passage in the Bible one needs to ask such simple questions as: Is the way I am hearing this the way I have come to know God in Christ? Does this fit the picture I have of God that Jesus has revealed to me? Does it match the character of God whom I have come to know through Christ? If it does, then that passage is valid and authoritative. If not, then I cannot accept its validity or authority. Matthew 4:19-20 Then He said to them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. 20 They immediately left their nets and followed (what they felt to be true) Him. We Need To Be Bold In Life 6c.) Rest while living out your life for Him v. 8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. Confident qarjrje w tharrheo, thar-hreh -o; to exercise courage: to be bold. A provided courage. A supplied boldness. Absent present ejkdhme w ekdemeo, ek-day-meh -o; to relocate, to vacate or quit: to be legally absent. no longer on the roll. unaccounted for. ejndhme w endemeo, en-day-meh -o; to be in one s own country. To be home. to enter back into the land of your birth. Philippians 1:6 (approx. 60 AD) being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; Hebrews 4:9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. 5

Philippians 3:20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly (depressed) body that it may be conformed to His glorious (exalted) body, It Means That None of God s Children Are Ever Far From Home John 3:6-7 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, You must be born again. This Born Again Encounter with Jesus Christ has Results; T he fear of the Lord once meant to me that I was afraid He would hurt me. Now I understand that the fear of the Lord is my fear of hurting Him. One fear rooted in ignorance, the other rooted in love. - G. Campbell Morgan Faith Building, Confidence Infusing, Power Verses!!! 1 Peter 1:3-5 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Philippians 1:20-23 according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. 23 For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. John 6:38-40 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. 40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day. 6

John 10:27-28 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 2 Timothy 4:6-8 (approx. 69 AD) For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.
