We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure Hebrews 6:19 St. John Lutheran Church Missouri Synod 460 W. Erie Street Rogers City, MI 49779 www.stjohnchurchlcms.org 989-734-3580 Rev. Kurt Lambart (734) 560-9001 klambart@outlook.com Church: sjlcrogerscity@gmail.com School: sjlsrogerscity@gmail.com Divine Service Setting 3 November 17/18 We cordially welcome all who are worshiping with us this week. May our Lord Jesus Christ grant you the will and the wisdom to renounce the world and to live as His follower and disciple. VISITORS you are invited to share your names and addresses in our Guest Book in the entryway of the church. COMMUNION POLICY As an expression of our faith and fellowship as the Missouri Synod Lutherans we welcome to the Sacrament those baptized Christians who: confess and repent of their sins; believe in the Triune God, and in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior; believe that they receive Christ s true Body and Blood with the Bread and Wine for forgiveness of sins, new life and salvation; promise to change their sinful life with the help of the Holy Spirit. Oneness at the altar requires oneness in doctrine, faith, and life (Acts 2:42). Therefore, Let each person examine himself, and thus eat of the bread and drink of the cup (1 Corinthians 11:28) Visitors and Guests - please speak with the Pastor or a Deacon before the worship service. Visitors and Members - please fill out a communion registration card found next to the hymnals. Please hand it to an usher or place it in the offering plate. Visitors please write your names and addresses in our Guest Book in the entry way of the church. Parents we encourage you to bring your children up with you during the communion celebration for a pastoral blessing. Remember Jesus words: Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these (Mark 10:14).

GOD IS SO GOOD! The SJLS family has been busy with conferences, STARBASE, Operation Christmas Child, participating in the Joint All Saints worship, and now getting ready for the children s Christmas program and community singing. End of first quarter was November 1. The Ladies Aid groups from Immanuel and St. Michael s are hosting a Thanksgiving Feast for the students and staff at SJLS, with special thanks to a Thrivent Action Grant utilized by Linda Schalk. Finally, our 8th grade girls presented a grant before the Northeast Michigan Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council, requesting support for their trip to Washington D.C. The class has also held a bottle drive, bake sale, and sold popcorn/suckers. Phew! No snow melting under our boots, here at SJLS! We welcome Logan Vekaryasz, a kindergarten student in Mrs. Petrik s room. Logan is the son of Jayla and Kevin Vekaryasz. FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY Our preschool teacher, Sydney Rauls, invites you to come join in the Christmas Play at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Metz. This year the play will remember those who fought in WW1 as it is the 100-year anniversary. The play will also tell the classic story of our Lord and Savior s birth. Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate. If you would like more information about helping out, participating, or coming to see the play, call or text Gabrielle at (636) 541-1361. Date of the play is December 16. LIKE TO TINKER? Think coding is cool? Enjoy science and math? St. John Lutheran School is looking for a STEM Lab coach to facilitate an after school program. Supplies have already been purchased, idea books and challenges are available. The space is open, students are eager, and all we need is you! This activity qualifies for parent volunteer hours, meaning that grandparents could also participate in this program. If you are interested, or would like more information, please contact Tonya Langlois 734-3580. DEER HIDE FUNDRAISER A barrel has been placed by the Erie Street school entrance for the collection of deer hides. Bring your hides and tell your favorite hunters!

FAMILY FARE RECEIPTS HELP OUR SCHOOL When shopping at Family Fare, you must use your Yes card at the check-out in order to activate the direct dollars program. Save your entire receipt and turn in to the church or school. Also, we welcome volunteers to help collect receipts up at the store. If you are interested, contact Monica at 766-8114. She will show you the process. Our school has earned $2,000 cash for textbooks since the program began. We hope you will help us gain another $2,000 or more for our school. FIRST 2018 HOLIDAY SCRIP ORDER IS MONDAY! If you would like an order placed for Gift Cards let us know in the office by the morning of November 19. Orders will also be placed on December 3 and December 17. Payment is due at the time you order. Gift cards make great gifts, and the Scrip Program offers gift cards for most popular businesses, including gas stations, restaurants, food stores, department stores, hardware stores, pharmacies, sporting goods, almost anything you can think of. To see all retailers go to www.shopwithscrip.com. Order forms are available on the church bulletin board and in the office. We also have a good variety of cards ready to purchase on the spot. Your cards are worth their full value and the school receives a percentage from the retailer, which goes into the scholarship fund.
