Assembly Bulletin Spring 2018 Meetings generally held at the Francis J. Spence Diocesan Centre. Knights of Columbus ~ 4th Degree 1st Ontario District Archbishop James V. Cleary Assembly #0857, Kingston, ON 1922 ~ 2018 The Faithful Navigator Report Whoever exalts in himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted MATTHEW 23:12 We have just come through what I hope and trust has been a fruitful Lent, full of discernment, grace and peace. Now we look to, and celebrate our risen Lord Jesus. We can also reflect on how our personal forty day journey has brought us closer to him. Serving with the Knights over these past many years has given me an opportunity to better understand who I am and where my heart did and now lies. You see my honesty with you now will not only help me but I pray it will help you also. I have always gone through life wanting to be loved and accepted. These things within themselves are not so wrong. What I feel is wrong is my approach of allowing pride to get in the way to be my true leader, instead of giving myself into full humility. Titles and positions were always my way of gaining your acceptance. I have come to learn that I have always crowned myself, sat on a throne to serve, rather than humble myself and serve our Lord Jesus who wears the true crown of Glory. It may be that I was brought on my journey with the Knights to grow in my own humility. If that is the case then I am forever grateful for having my eyes and ears opened. I have reached a point in my life where I must bow down through my own humility, listen and trust in God for his plan with my life. I am so thankful for the gifts granted to me with the Knights. The gift of Charity, allowed me to understand what it truly means to give without expecting a return. The gift of Unity has shown me that alone I can do nothing with true success. Trusting in God however, shows me that with numbers and his anchor all things are possible. The gift of Fraternity, open my heart to understand that through full Charity and Unity, friendships are the fruit of God s vine. I did not need the titles to receive this. I only needed greater humility in my life. Finally, the gift of Patriotism allowed me to dig deeper into my soul, stand tall with courage and tenacity in order to defend our Faith, knowing God is with me and I with him. In many ways I believe that I may never have fully understood all these things about myself unless I did serve in the various leadership roles. I guess it can be said that my pride has led me to better understand my own humility. There is a definite need for leadership in our broken world. But keeping God in the center of that leadership will allow sins to be snuffed and his will be done. From the bottom of my heart and soul I ask you to discern on how you can serve as a leader in our Assembly. Our nominations will begin in April with and Election to be held in May for the 2018/2019 Fraternal year. Please consider putting your name forward for one of the many elected roles in our Assembly. Positions available are, Faithful Navigator, Captain, Admiral, Pilot, Trustee, Inside Guard and Outside Guard. You will not make a mistake in deciding to lead within our Assembly. Instead you will, like I have been; shown the gift of Humility and be forever thankful to our God. My peace be with each one of you and I would like to close with this prayer and ask that you take it with you into your own personal discernment. Lord make me humble. Help me to be sincere and honest about who I am. And in that honesty, help me to let your heart, living in mine, to shine through for others to see. Jesus I trust in you. AMEN

4 th Degree Bulletin S/K Garry Davis (Trustee, PFN) This time I will avoid discussing the regalia change. I will leave that to the powers that be. Instead I will be discussing the recruitment of Sir Knights as Executive members of the Assembly. All members in good standing can nominate or elect members for the various Offices. During the nomination meeting in April no member nominated can refuse his nomination. They may do so during the actual Election at the meeting in May. A lot of members try to avoid these meetings so that they won`t be nominated. I really don`t understand why that is. Is it because they are afraid to take over the particular responsibilities involved. If that is the case there are plenty of experienced people around to help you. Also the Diocese Association puts on training sessions for all Officers in the Diocese on June 9 th at St. Paul the Apostle Church Hall. If your problem concerns the time available during your busy week activities, I`m sure that you can work around this if you want to. My concern is that as age increases, health issues arise which prevent us from performing at the same capacity that we used to be able to do. What is the solution for this. One solution that comes to mind is to nominate and elect younger, more active Executive members. So that is something to think about and action. I am one of those senior members so I`m not calling the kettle black. If you are like me, I never want to give up the ship but that time is coming. I look back on my 20 plus years in my Council and Assembly. It has been a special time in my life. I thank all those who have supported me through the many Executive positions that I have held. Without their support I would not have been able to properly carry out my responsibilities. So why I am mentioning this is to allay your fears of taking on a position on the Executive that you may think you can`t handle. There are many Knights who can help you gain that necessary confidence and experience. They want you to be successful because your success is important to help the Council or Assembly meet its obligations. Also there are records from previous Sir Knights which you can refer to if you aren`t sure of yourself. We are open to new ideas to compliment or improve existing procedures. Once you have been elected to a position on the Executive, you will get to be more appreciative of the workings of this Order. In turn you will be directly supporting the largest religious service organization in the world. As we proceed into our election of Officers for the 2018-2019 years, it is hoped that we will be able to get more Knights committed to offer their services to cover the offices for election as well the offices that are appointed. Only your support will make that happen. On that note let s make it happen.
