Dennis at djpaulinus@aol.com THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY & THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF SAINT MARY PARISH On Wednesday, August 15, we celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, our patronal feast. This day is a Holy Day of Obligation. The Assumption celebrates God s grace at work throughout Mary s life, but more importantly, through the threshold of her death. This grace, this divine love, carried Mary, body and soul, home to God. Despite the trials of her life, Mary trusted that God would be faithful. This trust entailed a constant letting go and trusting the new paths to which God was calling her. Mary s faith in God is a model for all of us; a model for the entire Church. As pilgrims through time, we are called to trust that God s goodness will not fail us. It will even prevail through the final frontier of death. God s grace will raise us to new life in Christ. The preface of the Mass for the Assumption expresses it succinctly: Today the Virgin Mother of God was taken up to heaven to be the beginning and pattern of the Church in its perfection, and a sign of hope and comfort for your people on their pilgrim way. The Assumption of Mary celebrates her participation in the new life given to us by our Lord Jesus Christ. It is the celebration of our future. Where Mary has gone, we hope to follow. August 15 this year is the 165th. Anniversary of the founding of our parish. It was on August 15, 1853 that Bishop John Fitzpatrick established Uxbridge as an independent parish under the patronage of the Assumption of Saint Mary. Saint Mary Parish is one of the oldest in the Diocese of Worcester. The Vigil Mass on Tuesday will be celebrated at 7:00pm and the Holy Day on Wednesday, the Mass will be celebrated at 7:00am. 6:30-8:00pm In the Parish Center YOUR OPINION COUNTS GALLUP ME25TM SURVEY MEMBER ENGAGEMENT SURVEY YOUR OPINION IS HIGHLY VALUED.
