The American Society of Plumbing Engineers NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION CENTRAL OHIO CHAPTER P. O. Box 2571 Columbus, OH 43216-2571 Chapters are not authorized to speak for the Society January 2015 VP Technical Tony Furst We are firmly in the grips of winter although we haven t been hit as bad this year with the cold and snow as we were last year. It appears that the work outlook is picking up as everyone within the design community I have talked with is busy. Earlier in January I had the opportunity to attend a seminar in Dayton on Legionella and the impacts of ASHRAE 188P, which is out for its fifth public review. What I learned is that there are lots of changes coming and we will all need to be aware of what is required. I already have this as a program topic for the 15-16 program year. We will have a very special guest here in February as our guest speaker, Mr. Mitch Clemente the newly elected President of ASPE will be here to share his vision for the future of ASPE. Please make sure you are here for this very special meeting to welcome our new president and show him how great the Central Ohio Chapter is. The upcoming program year looks to be an exciting one and I hope that everyone is enjoying the variety of technical topics we are (Continued on page 3) February Lunch Meeting 11:30 AM-1:00 PM $20.00 per meal February 9, 2015 Spaghetti Warehouse 397 West Broad Columbus, OH 43215 SUBJECT: The Future of ASPE SPEAKER: Mitch Clemente, ASPE President PLEASE REMEMBER, if you make a reservation, you are expected to pay, whether you attend or not. Smith, FASPE, as the Society s new Executive Director/CEO. Smith joined the ASPE staff last year as the Society s Senior Director of Technical and Regulatory Affairs, serving as the Society s main liaison with the plumbing industry s code writing and standards developing organizations. In his new role, Smith will be responsible for the administration, management, and financial operations of the Society, as well as implementing the policies and procedures established by the ASPE Board of Directors. He will provide professional administrative and management support and financial expertise to ASPE s local Chapters and for all Society activities and programs. In addition, Smith will continue to represent the interests of ASPE and the plumbing engineering community in code and standards activities as well as serve as a technical resource for the ASPE staff and membership. He will continue to build and maintain relationships with other industry organizations to ensure that the public s heath and safety are kept at the forefront of legislation and regulations regarding plumbing system design, installation, inspection, and maintenance. Smith joined ASPE in 1993 as an Affiliate Member and is currently a Full Member of the Society. He was elected to ASPE s College of Fellows in 2012 and received ASPE s Distinguished Service Award that same year. He is very knowledgeable and dedicated, and this has been proven many times through his tireless efforts to ensure the continued success of this Society, says ASPE President Mitch Clemente, CPD. I am looking forward to working closely with him and am confident that our members will be just as excited as I am to have Mr. Smith as our new Executive Director/CEO. William M. Smith, FASPE Smith began his plumbing industry career in 1981 as a Plumbing Product Designer for Jay R. Smith Mfg. Co., a leading manufacturer of quality engineered plumbing and drainage products. He subsequently served as a Senior Sales Engineer and then was promoted to Engineering Manager and finally Regional Sales Manager covering both Jay R. Smith and Acorn Engineering product groups. I would first like to express my gratitude to the Society Board of Directors for appointing me as ASPE s Executive Director/CEO. This is a great opportunity that I humbly accept, Smith says. I m extremely excited to have the chance to continue working closely with the Society s Board of Directors, our talented staff, our membership, and the industry as a whole particularly to ensure that the public s heath and safety are kept at the forefront of our respective collaborative efforts. #### ASPE is the only professional organization devoted to the training and certification of plumbing engineers and designers. Region 2 Affiliate Liaison - Dann Holmes ASPE Region 2 Affiliate Liaison Report Santa was certainly kind to me this year! Anytime I can witness the excitement on the faces of young children opening gifts they weren t expecting is a blessing to me. I must have been a good boy in 2014 to be able to experience such happiness. I shouldn t tell you but it s what I ask Santa for each & every year. Here s wishing a successful and prosperous New Year to you, your families and your employer. Without this combination working like a well designed plumbing system, life becomes too stressful. Make 2015 better than any year before it. As always, please feel free to contact me at: Dann Holmes ASPE Region 2 Affiliate Liaison NSF International Business Development Manager dholmes@nsf.org or (734) 214-6222 I trust the recent holidays and this past year were good to you too. I plan to continue with the same positive attitude that I had in 2014 throughout 2015. I m starting out my New Year by attending as many ASPE Chapter meetings as I can. A well presented subject offers so much education. But, as much as I plan to attend any ASPE Chapter meeting in Region 2, there always seems to be other industry events calling me away. January 19 th 23 rd sends me to Las Vegas for KBIS 2015 (booth N1649), followed by the AHR Expo 2015 in Chicago the 25 th 29 th (booth 1470). If you happen to be attending one, or both of these events, please stop by so we can visit. I ll recap these trade shows in my next article. This is the time of year when we update our files, file folders and mark all our e-mails read. If you re like me, I tell myself I ll stay current with this day-by-day. Yeah right. That s wishful thinking. 11
