Welcome to First Presbyterian Church Preparation for Worship: As you enter the Sanctuary, please prepare your hearts and minds for worship and silence your mobile devices. The beginning of the prelude is a call to silent, personal preparation for the worship of God. May our worship open our hearts to God s love, our eyes to God s beauty, our minds to God s truth, and our will to God s service. Chimes GATHERING AROUND THE WORD Greetings The grace of the Lord, Jesus Christ be with you. And also with you. Let us prepare our hearts and minds for worship. Prelude Fantasia on O Lord, How Manifold by John E. West Welcome and Announcements Call to Worship Sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord all the earth! Sing to the Lord and bless God s name! Tell of God s salvation every day! Declare God s glory above all; For we still worship idols of the world and seek worldly pleasures. Give glory to God, all peoples of the earth! We give glory and honor and praise to God, who made us all and calls us together to worship. Introit Chancel Choir Autumn Carol Russell Schulz-Widmar *Please Stand, if able
Opening Prayer There is none like you, Lord! Such splendor and strength! May all the earth sing to you: the families of the nations, the fish of the sea, the fields brimming with crops, and the forests filled with creatures. May your whole creation become a chorus whose song is you. May our voices join creation s chorus in praising you today. Amen. * Passing of the Peace * Opening Hymn Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise Blue Hymnal #263 Invitation to Confession Prayer of Confession O Lord, sometimes we are pretty good at declaring your glory in the midst of your people. We proclaim your greatness in worship services. We sing songs and hymns of praise. We preach your grace. We celebrate your wonderful works together. Yet, sometimes we forget to declare your glory when we leave these walls. We declare our own glory, in the attempt of building up our egos. Often, our lives don t speak of your glory or reflect your love. Forgive us, God of Glory, and transform our words and deeds, that through them, we might glorify you. Assurance of Pardon (Silent Prayer of Confession) Friends, believe the Good News of the Gospel. God in all his glory, sent his Son into the world, not to condemn, but to forgive. Thanks be to God. * Congregational Response Gloria Patri Blue Hymnal #579

RESPONDING TO THE WORD * Affirmation of Faith excerpt from the PCUSA Brief Statement of Faith Women: Men: We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father. In sovereign love God created the world good and makes everyone equally in God s image male and female, of every race and people, to live as one community. But we rebel against God; we hide from our Creator. Ignoring God s commandments, we violate the image of God in others and ourselves, accept lies as truth, exploit neighbor and nature, and threaten death to the planet entrusted to our care. We deserve God s condemnation. Yet God acts with justice and mercy to redeem creation. In everlasting love, the God of Abraham and Sarah chose a covenant people to bless all families of the earth. Hearing their cry, God delivered the children of Israel from the house of bondage. Loving us still, God makes us heirs with Christ of the covenant. Like a mother who will not forsake her nursing child, like a father who runs to welcome the prodigal home, God is faithful still.
