A Divine Appointment with a Divine Purpose But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2)People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3) without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without selfcontrol, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4)treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God 5)having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 And here we are in the last days! How long the last days will last literally, only God knows. But we are here. Our world is full of hurting and wounded people. People who are wounded by sin, wounded by their religion, wounded by race, wounded by poor choices, wounded by church, family and friends. These are people wounded by society, government and heritage. Sometimes people are wounded by their own sin and sometimes by the sins of others. There are some who believe they are wounded by God Himself, but they all are hurting, in pain and see no relief. Even if they were given what they wanted they would not find peace or joy or hope. Wounded people tend to become defensive, selffocused, angry, frustrated and hopeless. They can t see the light at the end of the tunnel. They become insecure, lonely, and even desperate. Turmoil drives their actions and reactions. To be loved and to love others escapes them so they surrender themselves to hate and criticism of others. Some more driven by their wounds than others but all need heart surgery; they need healing, hope, promise, love they need a friend They need a Savior. Jesus is the friend of the wounded heart. He is the one who came to bring relief from pain, suffering, confusion, anger, hopelessness and desperation. He came to set the captives free, from oppression and abuse in this world. He came to pay the price for their sin they could never pay and offer them citizenship in His Kingdom for eternity where peace and joy reign. The Samaritan Woman in John 4 is an example of Jesus, by divine appointment, fulfilling His divine purpose of touching a wounded heart. He must go through Samaria the Scripture reads. Why? He had a divine appointment, a life changing encounter with a woman wounded by her life choices and circumstances. A lonely woman without hope, friends or prospects other than hanging out with some guy who wasn t her husband because her other married relationship had failed. She was a Samaritan, unacceptable to the Jews, a sinful woman who seemed to have been rejected by her friends, family and community. A woman totally taken by surprise that a Jewish Rabbi would ask anything of her when she went to Jacob s Well outside of Sychar to get water believing no one else would be there. But Jesus was there. He was on mission on purpose. When confronted with her life situation and unable to change the subject concerning places to worship or not worship the truth was revealed. She ran to tell everyone she could in Sychar to Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah? They came, they believed and invited Jesus and His disciples to stay with them for a couple of days and many more believed. Jesus was on mission to go. He had a divine appointment with one of the most unlikely people you could find who became a testifier of who He was for a small town who needed to see Him and know Him and have their wounds healed. We are on mission as well and must be very attentive to the divine appointments God leads us to understanding that every divine appointment has a divine purpose bringing the good news of Jesus to a wounded person, family, community, city, nation and world. May He receive all the glory and honor forever and ever. John
