DAY 2: 4 TH AUGUST CHANDIGARH TO MANALI DISTANCE: 309 KMS (9 HRS) Key Highlights Alchi Jispa Khardungla Leh Manali Chandigarh Pangong Post an early morning flag-off, we start our driving expedition of a lifetime to the Land of the Mystic Lamas - Ladakh. This day we start from the plains but soon leave behind the main highway to start climbing higher to the mountains at 6,500 ft. to our first destination Manali. Old Manali boasts of some quaint cafes that can be visited if we reach early. DAY 3: 5 th AUGUST MANALI TO JISPA DISTANCE: 138 KMS (7 HRS) Key Highlights Alchi Khardungla Leh Pangong After breakfast, it s time to head to our stopover on the Manali-Leh highway: Jispa, a village in the Lahaul Valley flanked by the Bagha river. This day, enroute we cross the fabled Rohtang La at a height of 13,000+ feet. Stay in a campsite at Jispa Journeys, set amidst a meadow. Set off to relax by the river near the campsite if we reach before sundown. DAY 4: 6 TH AUGUST JISPA TO LEH DISTANCE: 330 KMS (9 HRS) Alchi Jispa Khardungla Leh Manali Chandigarh Pangong Key Highlights Get ready for scenic views and a long drive of ~330kms. Starting early is crucial as we cover a lot of ground: we start from Jispa, pass by Sarchu, Pang, Upishi, Karo to finally reach Leh. On our way, we drive through some of the highest mountain passes located at 16,000+ ft, such as Baralacha La and Lachungla, witnessing many dramatic landscapes of plains, troughs, mountains and hamlets. Expect to feel a bit of the high altitude to get to you, so don t forget to keep hydrating throughout the journey. DAY 5: 7 TH AUGUST LEH TO ALCHI AND RETURN DISTANCE: 120 KMS (4 HRS) Key Highlights Welcome to Leh the seat of the Himalayan kingdom of Ladakh. After a long and tiring drive, this day is fairly relaxed. Alchi Khardungla Leh Pangong After a leisurely breakfast, we head out to soak in the beauty of the ancient Alchi Monastery and marvel at the wall frescoes which have been preserved over centuries, safe in the confines of the monastery. On the way back to Leh, we will visit local sights such as Magnetic hills and the awe-inspiring Gurudwara Pather Saheb. The day ends with camaraderie over bonfire and a traditional Ladakhi dance performed especially for SOUL members. DAY 6: 8 TH AUGUST OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES AT LEH DISTANCE: 70 KMS (5 HRS) Alchi Khardungla Leh Pangong Key Highlights This day is at leisure where you can explore Leh. For the adventurous ones, wake up early for a thrilling white water rafting session in grade III+ rapids of the Zanskar river. Post this high adrenaline experience, we alight at the banks and have a freshly prepared local lunch. Those who opt to stay back, Leh has something to offer for everyone: from colourful cafes to picturesque alleyways to antique shops selling beautiful mementos. DAY 7: 9 TH AUGUST LEH TO PANGONG LAKE DISTANCE: 156 KMS (6 HRS) Key Highlights Today we set off on a journey to the iconic Pangong Tso. Approximately 60% of this lake lies in China and all together it covers 600+ km2. DAY 8: 10 TH AUGUST PANGONG LAKE TO LEH DISTANCE: 156 KMS (6 HRS) Key Highlights Alchi Khardungla Leh Pangong This day, we drive back to Leh, visiting the Thiksey & Shey monasteries enroute. In old times, the markets of Leh were famous for trading wares as it was an important stopover on key trade routes historically. Spend the evening at ease, hunting for souvenirs in these local markets on foot or enjoying Ladakhi cuisine in the many cafes that have come up. DAY 9: 11 TH AUGUST LEH TO KHARDUNGLA AND RETURN DISTANCE: 112 KMS (6 HRS) Key Highlights Though the drive is nearing the end, but we have more adventure in store for you. Today, we are going to visit Khardung La - one of the highest mountain passes in the Ladakh region at an altitude of 17,582 ft. Alchi Khardungla Get ready to experience real off-roading today as you encounter loose rock, dirt and occasional rivulets of snow melt on the way! Jispa Leh Manali Chandigarh Pangong The summit top provides for a peaceful environment to reflect on the drive experience as you enjoy your plate of Maggi noodles here!
