As God s love has drawn us, let us pray. That the Church may grow and flourish, protected from evil within and without; that in worship and ministry God s love may be brought into places of darkness and offer many the light of hope. Lord our God: show us the path of life. That our shrinking world may bring about co-operation and a fresh appreciation of one another s cultures; that we may encourage one another in goodness, peace and love. Lord our God: show us the path of life. That we may take time to cherish our loved ones in the present moment, and value the blessings we receive each day. Lord our God: show us the path of life.
- 5 - That God s healing touch may bring wholeness and peace to those who suffer, and hope to those who are close to despair. Lord our God: show us the path of life. That God s love may surround those travelling through death and bring them safely to heaven. Lord our God: show us the path of life. We praise and bless you, Lord, for Christ s saving death and the promise of everlasting life. Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. Hymn Psalm 33 (Psalm Praise) Rejoice, rejoice you children of God 1. Rejoice, rejoice you children of God, A song we'll sing, a song that's new, Musicians, play with all your skill, For God is faithful, God is true. 2. All that exists has sprung from Him, It flourishes at His decree, He made the heaven and the earth, He formed the stars, the sky, the sea. 3. The schemes of men are His to change, His purposes alone will stand, His gaze still searches every heart, Our happiness is in His hand. 4. No warrior can block His way, No army's might frustrate His plan, For he who stands in awe of God, And trust Him, is the happy man. 5. Though death or famine grip his flesh, No evil force shall touch his soul, His hope is in God's endless love His heart is under God's control. 6. Rejoice, rejoice then, children of God, His love shall rest upon us all, We place our trust in Him alone, And, through His grace, we shall not fall.
Hannah s Prayer (canticle) My heart exults in the Lord;* my strength is exalted in my God. My mouth derides my enemies,* because I rejoice in my victory. There is no Holy One like the Lord, no one besides you;* there is no Rock like our God. Talk no more so very proudly, let not arrogance come from your mouth;* for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. The bows of the mighty are broken,* but the feeble gird on strength. Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread,* but those who were hungry are fat with spoil. The barren has borne seven,* but she who has many children is forlorn. The Lord kills and brings to life;* he brings down to Sheol and raises up. The Lord makes poor and makes rich;* he brings low, he also exalts. He raises up the poor from the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap,* to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honour. For the pillars of the earth are the Lord s,* and on them he has set the world.
He will guard the feet of his faithful ones, but the wicked shall be cut off in darkness;* for not by might does one prevail. The Lord! His adversaries shall be shattered;* the Most High will thunder in heaven. The Lord will judge the ends of the earth;* he will give strength to his king, and exalt the power of his anointed.
