2. Introductory Rites ENTRANCE SONG Ready the Way Please Stand Today we begin a new season, and a new year, in the life of the Church. In every phase of our lives we observe annual celebrations to mark those things that we value most birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. So, this annual season of Advent draws our attention to what is most important: God s love revealed to us in the incarnation of Jesus. Starting today, let us mark this annual season with a heightened awareness of God s presence in our midst, so that we may truly prepare for the coming of the Lord into our hearts this Christmas.

14. 3. Sending Song Together we sing: Sign of the Cross The Savior of the World by Debbie McNeil Priest: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen. Greeting Priest: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. All: And with your spirit. 4. LITURGY OF THE WORD FIRST READING Jeremiah 33:14-16 Introduction to the Reading: The prophet Jeremiah lived at a difficult time in Jewish history. Jerusalem, their beloved capitol, had been destroyed, and most of the people taken captive to far-off Babylon, which is in present-day Iraq. Despite this gloomy setting, Jeremiah expresses the conviction that the Lord will raise up a new leader from the line of David to restore and rebuild their native land. I will cause a good seed to spring forth from David. I, the Lord, say this: The time is coming when I will keep the promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah. I will choose a ruler from the family of David, and he will be completely fair to everyone. Judah will be safe. Jerusalem will have peace, and it will be named, "The LORD our Protector!" Solemn Blessing May the almighty and merciful God, by whose grace you have placed your faith in the First Coming of his Only Begotten Son and yearn for his coming again, sanctify you by the radiance of Christ s Advent and enrich you with his blessing. All: Amen. As you run the race of this present life, may he make you firm in faith, joyful in hope and active in charity. All: Amen. So that, rejoicing now with devotion at the Redeemer s coming in the flesh, you may be endowed with the rich reward of eternal life when he comes again in majesty. All: Amen. Presider: And may the blessing of almighty God, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, come down on you and remain with you forever. All: Amen. Dismissal 13. All: Thanks be to God. The word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. We are sent forth singing our Sending Song with our music ministry, next page.

12. 5. Responsorial Psalm Psalm 122 1. I rejoiced when they said to me: Let us go to the house of the Lord today. And now we stand within your gates; my heart is glad and I will sing with joy. 2. Strongly built is Jerusalem, strongly built with unity and love. And it is there that the tribes go up, go up to the mountain of our God. 3. For the love of friends and fam ly, may the peace of God be with you always. For the love of God s house, I will pray for you, will pray for your good. Prayer After Communion Please stand. Greeting Priest: The Lord be with you. Concluding Rites All: And with your spirit. Second Reading 1 Thessalonians 3:12-4:2 Introduction to the Reading: The date was some 30 years after Christ s death and resurrection. The place was a city in northeast

6. 11. Greece called Thessalonica, where Christians were being persecuted. Paul, who had brought the Gospel there, heard about their perseverance and sent a letter of encouragement. Paul prayed to the Lord for the Christians of Thessalonica that their love for one another would overflow and that their hearts might be blameless and holy before God. Communion Rite Lord s Prayer & Sign of Peace A reading from the first letter of Paul to the Thessalonians. Lamb of God Mass of a Joyful Heart Brothers and sisters: May the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, just as we have for you, so as to strengthen your hearts, to be blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his holy ones. Amen. Finally, brothers and sisters, we earnestly ask and exhort you in the Lord Jesus that, as you received from us how you should conduct yourselves to please God and as you are conducting yourselves you do so even more. For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. The word of the Lord. Gospel Acclamation Thanks be to God. Please stand. Priest: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. All: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed. Communion Song Together we sing: Emmanuel by Steve Angrisano Continued on the next page.

10. we who watch for that day And so, for such great love we thank you with the Angels and Saints as they praise you and sing: Gospel Luke 21:25-28,.34-36 Introduction to the Reading: Jesus speaks to his disciples about the cosmic occurrences at the time of the coming of the Son of Man. While others might be crushed with fear by the devastating reality of the end of the world, the followers of Jesus can stand with their heads held high, anticipating redemption. To be prepared for such a moment requires vigilance, however. They are called to watch and to pray, a foreshadowing of the instructions Jesus will give them in the Garden of Gethsemane as he faces the chaos and suffering of death on the Cross. 7. Priest: The Lord be with you. All: And with your spirit. Deacon/Priest: + A reading from the holy gospel according to Luke All: Glory to you, O Lord. Blessed be Jesus And so, loving Father, we remember that Jesus died and rose again to save the world. He put himself into our hands to be the sacrifice we offer you and, so we proclaim the mystery of faith. Doxology & Amen Your redemption is near at hand. Jesus said to his disciples: "Strange things will happen to the sun, moon, and stars. The nations on earth will be afraid of the roaring sea and tides, and they won't know what to do. People will be so frightened that they will faint because of what is happening to the world. Every power in the sky will be shaken. "Then the Son of Man will be seen, coming in a cloud with great power and glory. When all of this starts happening, stand up straight and be brave. You will soon be set free. "Don't spend all of your time thinking about eating or drinking or worrying about life. If you do, the final day will suddenly catch you like a trap. That day will surprise everyone on earth. "Watch out and keep praying that you can escape all that is going to happen and that the Son of Man will be pleased with you."

8. 9. The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord, Jesus Christ. Homily Profession of Faith Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, Bow: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, Stand: suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. Universal Prayer Offertory Song All: Lord, hear our prayer. Prayer of the Faithful LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST We Shall Prepare Together we sing: 1. A voice strong and clear cries out in the night: "Make straight the way of our God." The mountains bend low, the plains will rise up to the glory, the glory of God! 2. There shall be one who is to come, mightier than you or I. We shall be changed, baptized with fire of the spirit, the spirit of God! 3. Children of God, come change your hearts. Come to the water of life. Offer your hand, offer your heart to the people, the people of God! Priest: Pray, brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father. All: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church. The Lord be with you. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All: And with your spirit. All: We lift them up to the Lord. All: It is right and just. It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, at all times and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God, through Christ our Lord At his first coming Jesus was human, just like us, and so fulfilled the design you formed long ago, and opened for us the way to eternal salvation, that, when he comes again in glory and majesty and all is at last made manifest,
