The Aldersgate logo was inspired by the Love Sculpture in Philadelphia, PA., to remind us that God is Love and that Love is the Greatest Commandment. Aldersgate Our new sermon series, With God s Son: Following our Rabbi through the Gospel of Matthew will consist of several sub-series. The first will be called Looking Back, Saving Forward, based on Jesus genealogy in Matthew 1:1-17. Today s sermon Son of Abraham is the first in the series. You will find an order of service of Page 4. You might think genealogies are really dry and boring. Not this one! It reveals the powerful ways that God works in our lives and in the world. It may be unlike any Advent sermon series that you have ever heard. Series Spiritual Practice: You are invited to read through the Gospel of Matthew once a month for the next 12 months. This will give us an opportunity to focus on the whole book while we share the sermons based on parts of book of Matthew at the same time. Thanksgiving Feast at the Academy The children and families of the Academy enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving feast, thanks to the Holiday Meal team. The team decided to make a change this year by providing the entire meal to the families instead of having the families bring a potluck or a assigned food item to share. It was a great success! Thank you, members of the Aldersgate family, for donating money, food and your time to minister to the families of the Academy in this way. Some of the classes made accessories to wear, such as pilgrim bonnets and Native American headbands (or as one child called it a, chicken hat ). All of the children made their own placemats to be used during the feast. Parents met their children in the Fellowship Hall and then helped them to prepare a plate of food. Volunteers helped the children whose parents were unable to attend to get a plate of food and find a seat at the table. Volunteers also helped serve desserts and drinks and refills. Families stayed busy meeting each other, chatting and sharing stories. Because of the noon timing, many mothers and fathers were able to attend. With our busy schedules, having time to sit down and enjoy a meal with our children can be such a meaningful experience. I would like to give a shout out to the Academy Holiday Meal Team: parent members Jessica Morrow and Melanie LaCroix, Academy staff members Marylin Wilson and Lisa Chaney, church members Bobbie Johnson and Ellen Knox and Academy board members Kristie Poorman and Patty Manawes. If you see any of these people, be sure to give them a pat on the back for a job WELL done! If you would like to help out with future events at the Academy, be sure to check the Academy circle on the back of your Welcome Card, or contact me directly at (325) 677-1045 or mdo@aldersgateabilene.org. There is a place for you on the Academy teams! Grace and Peace. Carol Rogers

One Less = SUCCESS! During the past few weeks, the youth have given their time and energy to making sure no child at Bowie elementary is left in the cold (literally) this coming winter season. The youth recently purchased and packaged 68 coats and placed a note that reads You Are Loved in a pocket of each! The coats will be delivered this week so the children can be all bundled up for the holiday break and beyond. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Aldersgate family for seeing a need and providing financial as well as prayerful support of this beautiful ministry. This kind of giving can have an incredible impact on the lives of these kids and their families. It also gives our youth the opportunity to offer comfort in a hurting world. Thank you for partnering with our youth, and thank you to all the youth who showed up in numbers these last few Sunday nights to go out and purchase as well as pack all of these coats. These types of acts are just one way in which we can help bring heaven to earth and stoke the fire of a loving and united community. Grace and Peace. Connections: Growth Group Highlight The fall session of Growth Groups recently came to an end. It was a great session, filled with stories of spiritual growth and transformation. Growth Groups meet together every week for prayer, fellowship and discussion, and during every session, each group also participates in some sort of service opportunity. This fall, members of one of our Growth Groups prayerfully decided that they should install a free food box in the Open Door Community Garden. This box (pictured at right) will be stocked with nonperishable foods and other items and will be available to anyone in need. One of the other Growth Groups takes up a weekly collection of hygiene products to donate to the women of New Beginnings, a ministry that serves women transitioning out of prison. I am grateful for the members of all of our Growth Groups, who use their creative energies to think of special outreach opportunities such as these. The opportunities for Growth Group members to serve together abound in our local mission field and beyond! Jessica Watson

Please mark your calendars for Sunday, December 11, 2016. That is the date of Aldersgate s a n n u a l A l l - C h u r c h Christmas Celebration, and the schedule looks like this: 9:00 a.m. = Sunday School 10:05 a.m. = One Worship Service in Sanctuary (with Children s Program) 11:15 a.m. = Celebration Lunch in the Fellowship Hall. After Lunch = Visitation of Homebound. Our All-Church Christmas Celebration is one of my favorite days of the year. It gives us our entire congregation the chance to do just that as we worship and eat together and serve. While I certainly value our two distinct styles of worship that take place each week, it is such a blessing for all of us to come together during one service to worship in one place at one time. And the children s program always brings such joy! Eating together builds relationships as we reconnect with old friends and make new ones. If you are able, please use the insert in the In Action this week to sign up to contribute a pot of soup, chili or beans or some bread to the luncheon. (Decadent cupcakes will be provided by Cathy Justus. Thank you!) Volunteers also are welcome in the kitchen! My favorite part of the whole day is the love that we show our friends who are not able to come to church. Because you are willing to take some time that afternoon to visit one of our homebound members, this truly is an allchurch celebration. Several volunteers (families, individuals, groups of friends, members of Sunday School classes) are needed to ensure that every homebound member who would like a visit on December 11 will receive one. These visits are such a blessing to those who receive them and to those who take the time to give them. I will match you with a homebound member, let him or her know that you will be coming and even provide driving directions! You may use your insert to sign up, or contact me at amywilsonfeltz@aldersgateabilene.org or (325) 660-5017. With many ways to connect with one another, December 11 is shaping up to be a wonderful day!
