Seeds of Faith Faith United Methodist Church Nov/Dec 2018 The Vision of Faith United Methodist Church is to empower all people to seek the fullness and assurance of God s Love. The Mission of Faith United Methodist Church is to invite everyone into a loving community, explore the Good News of God s Love, and serve God and our neighbor throughout the world. Thankful. The Marske family is thankful for many things, one of which is the opportunity to work with Faith United Methodist Church. Rarely do things work the typical way for our family. Faith was no exception. We have started at one of the busiest times for the life of a church: All Saints Day, Thanksgiving, Advent, and Christmas. In 1621, the first Thanksgiving was celebrated with the pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians. In November 1863, in the middle of the Civil War, Abe Lincoln wanted to remind Americans that even during war, there was much to be thankful for. This Thanksgiving, try not to get so caught up with the craziness and forget what the whole holiday is about, a time to give thanks to our God. For some, the holidays are a tough time of year. In October, Former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor announced that she had the onset of dementia. Yet with the diagnosis, she has been quoted as saying, While the final chapter of my life with dementia may be trying, nothing has diminished my gratitude and deep appreciation for the countless blessings in my life. Sometimes we have to dig to see the good things that we can be thankful for. We are planning wonderful worship opportunities in the upcoming weeks. Opportunities to remember loved ones that have passed on, opportunities to thank God for all He has done, opportunities to celebrate our Lord and Savior s birth, and opportunities to get to know each other. I look forward to celebrating with you and your family. Pastor Gracie

All Saints Celebration Sunday, November 18th All Saints is a day of remembrance for the saints, with the New Testament meaning being all Christian people of every time and place. We celebrate the communion of saints as we remember those who have gone before us, both of the Church universal and of our local congregation. Many of our love ones have departed us in the past year. As part of the worship service, we will lift up their memory by speaking their names, ringing a bell of remembrance, and lighting a candle symbolizing our hope in Jesus Christ. Please join us for this time of supportive fellowship as we celebrate lives and honor memories. If you are unable to attend on this day and would like a name lifted up during the service, please call the church at 307-638-3184 and leave a detailed message. The first Sunday of Advent is December 2 Prepare the way for the Lord. Get ready. The Lord is coming! Advent is a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. Please join us as we begin our Advent journey with a special Hanging of the Greens service at 11:00. We will celebrate with scripture and music as we decorate the sanctuary for this special season. Following the service, the hanging of the greens will continue after a light meal is served to all who stay to help.

UMW/ Outreach News Thanks to everyone who participated in the Operation Christmas Child shoebox project. We had a great response once again this year and donated 25 boxes that will be distributed by Samaritan s Purse to children in other parts of the world. We are offering the beautiful God s Creation calendars for sale again this year. We have plenty and they make great gifts! Part of the $8.00 cost helps fund the UMW s mission projects, and we appreciate your support! Mark Your Calendar for these Special Events! Our next meeting will be Thursday, November 29 at 6:30 pm in the fireplace room. This will be our Thank Offering program, so please remember to bring your thank offering box if you have one. All ladies of the church are welcome and encouraged to join us for devotions, planning, fellowship and dessert! The mitten tree will be in the back of the sanctuary beginning the first Sunday of Advent, December 2, so please consider collecting mittens, gloves, hats, scarves and socks to decorate the tree and donate to those who need help keeping warm this winter. As one of our outreach and mission projects, the UMW will continue the tradition of serving Christmas dinner for the Lion s Club. Please mark your calendar for Thursday, December 6, and contact Donna Newland if you would like to provide some much needed help. On Sunday, December 23 during fellowship time after the morning worship service, the UMW will be hosting a Birthday Party for Jesus! In honor of the birth of Jesus, we will be working toward filling the baby bottle with donations to support LifeChoice Pregnancy Care Center.

Our sincerest sympathies in the passing of Rev. Delbert Hansen on October 8, 2018. Del was a longtime pastor of Faith Church and worked at the hospital and VA as a pastor and chaplain. He was a man of God and he touched so many lives. The memorial service held at First United Methodist Church in Cheyenne was packed and the service was wonderful. Thanks to Rev. Carol Carr for officiating and the musicians and speakers. Our heartfelt sympathy to Lois, their sons Randy and Dennis and all the family in the loss of Delbert. We are sad that Del is gone but happy he is with the Lord! Thanks for all the memories, Del. You will never be forgotten. We will meet you again in Heaven someday! Please keep these in prayer for health, safety, and wellness: Ministry of Faith UMC Places facing War and Unrest Bishop Oliveto and Conference Leaders Our Government Leaders Norma Wilkins & family Sharon Cloyd Bernice Acheson Ilene Windom Merklin Family Duane Wall Well done, good and faithful servant! Please continue to keep in your prayers, Nathan Kissack, oldest grandson of Ken & Bonnie Merklin, who was diagnosed with lymphoma and spent 3 months at a hospital in Denver. He is now at home in Gillette, and is having chemo treatments there. Nathan has a long road ahead to recovery and your prayers are very much appreciated. Please keep these families in prayer who grieve: Xen Blackmore Colleen Pettit Mike Daharsh The family & friends of Joan Allen Jeff & Vicky Hildreth Family & Friends of Del Hansen Blessing Box: Everyone is encouraged to keep the blessing box stocked with canned goods, non-perishable food items, personal items, etc. We ask that you focus on individually wrapped items such as breakfast/snack bars, crackers, etc. Remember to bring items that won t melt or freeze. Cookies for Davis Hospice We have observed that people are taking items that have been put on the shelves and hopefully others will want to add more items when they can. As the box says, Take what you need, leave what you can. If you would like to provide cookies to Davis Hospice, the details and sign up sheet can be found in the back of the sanctuary. Please consider joining in with others who have been faithful in keeping this ministry alive.

The Staff-Parish Relations Committee would like to extend a warm welcome to Pastor Gracie Marske who was appointed as Faith United Methodist Church s half-time pastor effective October 21, 2018. An introductory meeting was held on October 13, at which time Pastor Gracie was introduced to the SPR Committee by District Superintendent Jeff Rainwater. After a time of sharing and prayer, the appointment was confirmed and the committee welcomed Pastor Gracie to Faith Church, along with her husband Larry and their daughter Emma. Pastor Gracie is a Licensed Local Pastor who also services Hillsdale United Methodist Church onequarter time. The joint Hillsdale/Faith Staff-Parish Relations Committee will continue working with and supporting Pastor Gracie as she makes this transition. We would like to thank you all for your patience as the appointment process slowly moved forward since July, as well as for your support of the change in worship time to accommodate Pastor Gracie s schedule serving two congregations. We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to those who graciously filled the pulpit while we were without a pastor: Virginia Clark, Darrell Dennis, Betty Ann Shaffer, Jeff Hildreth, and from First UMC Rev. Bill Novak and Rev. Mark Marston (who administered communion.) Please join us soon for Sunday worship at 11:00 am to get acquainted with Pastor Gracie and her family and be blessed by her message! Believe that the best days for your church, using God s standards, are ahead. From the Treasurer Thank you to everyone that has donated to the church this year. We are in good shape financially and all bills have been paid. We are grateful to all that helped with the painting and repair. We received enough donations to fund the entire project. This church is beyond blessed every day for all the members that contribute. It makes my job so much easier! Thank you! Penny Franz, Treasurer and Finance Chair Choir practice has begun! If you love to sing, please join us in the sanctuary on Wednesday, November 21st at 10 am. We will be working to prepare music for Christmas. Please contact Connie Fournier (638-1642) or any choir member if you have input, comments or questions. Thank you to all the people on the committees and all the others that step up to take care of our church and its business. Thanks to everyone that is getting all the necessary reports ready for the Charge Conference on December 1st. We are all the church together! Thank you to all the members and friends for their generous contributions which enabled us to reach our goal for the cleaning, repairing and painting of the outside of our church. As we approach the 100th anniversary of our church, we need to give thanks to all those who have given of their resources to keep our church safe and pleasant. Thank you from Board of Trustees.
