Where streams of living water flow, my ransomed soul He leadeth, and where the verdant pastures grow, with food celestial feedeth. Perverse and foolish oft I strayed, but yet in love He sought me, and on His shoulder gently laid, and home, rejoicing brought me. And so through all the length of days Thy goodness faileth never; good Shepherd may I sing Thy praise within Thy house forever. *Response #94 United Methodist Hymnal The Doxology *Unison Prayer of Dedication Loving God, faithful and gracious forever, You love us more than we love ourselves. sacrament of holy baptism Sunday, August 10, 2014 introduction Brothers and Sisters in Christ, from the beginnings of Christianity, Baptism has been seen as our entrance into the family of faith. We believe Baptism is an outward and visible sign that the grace of Lord Jesus Christ is at work in our lives. It is through this grace that we enter into a special relationship with Christ and are inheritors of the promise of eternal life. Those who receive this sacrament are marked as disciples of Jesus and are part of the fellowship of the universal Christian church. We believe that Jesus has expressly given a place for children to be counted among God s people; it is a privilege which should not be denied them. Presentation Michael Lamb, Lay Lector I am pleased to present to you Au s t i n Ch e n, Jo y McKn i g h t Ch e n, Si m o n Au s t i n Ch e n, Li n d s ay Jo y Ch e n, Jennifer Ly n n Sc o t t, Arabella Pl u m Sc o t t, & Ge o rg i n a Ro s e Sc o t t for Baptism. those to be baptized Rev. Patricia Farris Do you believe in God the source, the fountain of life; and in Christ, the offspring of God, embodied in Jesus of Nazareth and in the church; and in the liberating Spirit of God, the wellspring of new life? We do. On behalf of the whole church, I ask you: Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you of new life in Christ, resisting evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves? We do. over

Will you nurture these children in Christ s holy church, that by your teaching and example they may be guided to accept God s grace for themselves, to profess their faith openly, and to lead a Christian life? We will. (To the Congregation) Do you, as Christ s body, the church, reaffirm both your rejection of sin and your commitment to Christ? We do. Michael Lamb Will you nurture one another in the Christian faith and life and include these persons now before you in your care? With God s help we will proclaim the good news and live according to the example of Christ. We will surround you with a community of love and forgiveness, that you may grow in your trust of God, and be found faithful in your service to others. We will pray for you, that you may be a true disciple who walks in the way that leads to life. Baptism Rev. Farris Austin, Jo y McKnight, Si m o n Au s t i n, Li n d s ay Jo y, Jennifer Ly n n, Arabella Pl u m, Georgina Rose I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. F O C U S O N August 10, 2014 Sunday school open house by / Director of Children and Family Ministries Faith isn t taught - it s caught! Come catch the faith next Sunday during Sunday School Open House. Children come into their own relationship with God by seeing how that relationship makes a difference in the lives of the people around them. Help them take the next step of their journey of faith. In Sunday School we believe coming to know God is an adventure and like any true adventure it s both fun & challenging. We try to empower kids with age-appropriate bible skills that will help them come to know God through Scripture for themselves. Come meet the teachers who are here to partner with you and your child on this journey. They will have the new Fall curriculum and are eager to answer all your questions. We look forward to seeing you!
