New Evangelization Corner Dear Friends, As most of you know, a quick trip to an American grocery store rarely ends up being "quick." The endless variety of choices on the shelves can turn a simple stop for salad dressing into a head-spinning event! So many prices to compare! So many options to choose from! America is a land of abundance, but we regularly operate out of a mindset of scarcity. We like to fixate on what we lack. For example, how many times last week did you catch yourself saying that you didn't have enough of something? Maybe you said you didn t have enough time. Or perhaps you didn t get enough sleep. Maybe you wish you had more help, or maybe finances are tight. In today s Gospel, the disciples are also highly aware of their lack as they frantically try to figure out how to feed thousands of people with their scarce resources! Philip responds like many of us would in this highly stressful situation. Instead of turning to the Lord in his lack, he looks to himself, and then panics: "Two hundred days' wages worth of food would not be enough for each of them to have a little." How many of us do the same thing? Instead of turning to Jesus, we turn to ourselves for solutions, and then we panic. We brainstorm ideas, we plan, we complain, we stress, we shake our heads in worry, and we frantically try to squeeze more on our plate. We fixate on scarcity because our faith in the Lord s abundance is ridiculously weak. Brothers and sisters, like the loaves and the fishes in today s Gospel, Jesus transforms everything that is given to Him into something better. Jesus only takes what we give Him, so this week, let s consciously give Him what little we have and what little we are to be transformed into something greater than we could have ever imagined. John Kokett, Grand Knight Frequently Asked Questions regarding living our Catholic Faith Q. What does the Catholic Church say regarding attending a marriage before a Justice of the Peace? A.You cannot attend such a marriage because it means this couple is Renouncing their Catholic faith and belief in a Sacramental Marriage. By attending such a marriage, you are giving your seal of approval to the couple that what they are about to do is okay. By attending you become part of their sin. One can sin in many ways: 1.By counsel (if you advised them to go ahead with the Marriage). 2.By command or consent ( if you agreed it is alright) 3.By provocation 4.By praise or flattery You have an obligation to encourage 5.By concealment them to receive a Sacramental marriage. 6. By partaking (if you attended) 7. By Silence (if you said nothing about the rejection of their faith) 8. By defense of the ill done (defending the action. Stay Tuned for more next week! If interested contact the Central Office. Bazaar We will have our post Bazaar meeting on Sunday, August 5th at 7:00 p.m. in the church basement. All are welcome! All Saints St. Hedwig s Steps The project hold up is because of a couple of things. 1. I tried to get in front of the Diocesan Building Board to approve a simple fix for short term but they do not want to approve it without knowing exactly what the long term solution is. 2. So I have been working with long term possibility options: I have been meeting with engineers and building companies to evaluate if our buildings are up to codes, structurally sound and what are the costs to remedy. 3. I have presented ideas about becoming one in our parish with one vision. Both the Finance Councils and the Parish Councils want me to explore the option of building one new church. 4. I am hoping to present all the information I have with the parish soon! So that we can advise me about making a decision as your Pastor. Please be patient. 5. I have NOT made a decision but I would hope that by fall our short term and long term plans would be decided so that we can move forward and become one parish. 6. The Bishop said that he would not close a parish but would affirm whatever decision we make. We are trying to hurry because the steps are getting worse and the Bishop is going to retire in the next couple of years. ~ Fr. Gregory Save the date for Nov. 26th-30th, Plan to take a Pilgrimage Tour this year with Fr. Gregory! More information coming next week.
