TUESDAY, AUGUST 28, 2018 Saint Augustine, Bishop and Doctor of the Church 8:00 AM X Lori Mottola by Mother-in-law Dear Parishioners, Cranston, RI In his book The Power of No, James Altucher makes an interesting assertion: You are an average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. It s a clever way of saying that the human person is communal and relational by nature. In other words, we have a profound impact on the lives of others and others have a profound impact on us. And while we often think we are entirely in charge of our own choices, the people we associate with do play an enormous role in supporting or hindering our efforts to become saints the people God made us to be. With this mind, you might ask yourself the following: Are the 5 people with whom I spend the most time helping or hurting my chances of becoming the person God created me to be? If (whether I realize it or not) I really were the average of the 5 people with whom I spend the most time, would that be a good or bad thing? If I am less than pleased to be an average of these 5 people, what do I need to do about it? WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 29, 2018 The Passion of Saint John the Baptist 12:00 PM Parishioners of ICC THURSDAY, AUGUST 30, 2018 Weekday 8:00 AM X Vincent Forleo (1 st Anniv.) FRIDAY, AUGUST 31, 2018 Weekday 12:00 PM X Msgr. Albert Cerrito (Birth. Rem.) SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2018 Weekday 4:00 PM X Mary Totonelly (1 st Anniv.) X Joan N. Cardillo (Mos. Mind) X Vincent & Anna Ciunci and Gilbert Ciunci by Family X George & Mary Treanor and Susan Treanor by Family SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2018 Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time 8:00 AM X Marguerite Currier (1 st Anniv.) 10:30 AM X Leroy DeCesare (4 th Anniv.) by Wife and Daughter X Helen Galasso (1 st Anniv.) X Eileen F. Victurine (Mos. Mind) X Anna Mottola (Birthday Rem.) by Family 5:00 PM X Joan M. VanBost (1 st Anniv.) I believe this is something really important to reflect upon. Growing in virtue (or vice) is directly influenced by the people surrounding us. We may think we re immune from the effect of the negative (or positive) behavior of others, but it s not so. Choosing friends wisely is crucial to becoming holy and getting to heaven. Your response to the Bags of Hope project was simply amazing: we collected $9,335 which means 373 foster children will receive monogrammed duffle bags filled with items they need!! Thank you for your extraordinary generosity to this wonderful charity for children!! This Monday our St. Joseph Men s Guild is sponsoring a Blood Drive in St. Joseph Hall from 3:30pm to 7:00pm. Please stop by for an hour, donate a pint of your blood, and save three human lives! I hope to see you there. Our new school year begins this Wednesday where did the summer go? Please keep our students, faculty and staff in your prayers as they go back to the books. God bless you in the week ahead. Fr. Wilson
