Theme: Prayer Georgetown Homecoming Weekend This Sunday is the Homecoming Weekend in Georgetown. People from all around the area will be coming to join in the festivities. Our church will be hosting a lunch reception following the worship service. In the service we will have a look at coming home with God. Our scripture passage focuses on Jesus teaching the Lord s Prayer. The Lord s Prayer unites people with its familiar words and comforting images. When we feel sometimes distant from God this prayer can provide us comfort and guidance. At times of illness or grief the prayer helps us cope and reconnect with a God who loves us deeply. When we seek out God in prayer we can be assured of his loving presence and be guided in our lives. This week s readings are: First Scripture Reading: Psalm 46 Second Scripture Reading: Luke 11: 1-13 Sermon: Coming Home to God Our Mission Statement To be a caring, fun-loving church, sharing the love of Christ with all News from the Pews is the electronic newsletter of St. Andrew's United Church, Georgetown, Ontario, produced every Thursday. SUNDAY SCHOOL OFFERING The Christian Education Ministry collects the Sunday School offering from the children during the Children's Time in the worship service. We encourage parents to teach children the importance of practicing Stewardship and making an offering to God. Offering envelopes are available for the Sunday School children. Please see Rosemarie Lee if you would like a box for your child. OFFERING ENVELOPES AND PAR Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR) is a direct debit program that allows people to support their church through an automatic monthly withdrawal from their bank account. Congregational members often find that monthly direct debiting allows them to more intentionally plan and honour their financial commitments to their congregation. PAR ensures St. Andrew's continues to receive financial support even when you are unable to donate in person. A donation can be designated to current expenses and/or other special funds, just like it is on an offering envelope. To enroll, please call Nancy Thompson or Gail Bancroft. FLORENCE S FORUM Nice break in the hot humid weather. Great to be able to get out from the confines of air-conditioned homes. Thanks to Colleen for her two solos on Sunday. I hope you are all taking notice of some recent new people in the congregation. Please take a moment to say hello and introduce yourself. As part of the Georgetown Homecoming 2013 weekend, after the Service on Sunday, we are having a lunch with memorabilia around for you to look at. You are asked to bring sandwiches or goodies for lunch. Looks like a busy weekend in G Town beginning with the car show on Main Street on Friday night. An opportunity to recall some of your past. God answered, "A million years is like a minute." Then the man asked, "God, how much is a million dollars to you?" God replied, "A million dollars is like a penny." The man thought for a short time and asked, "God, will you give me a penny?" "In a minute," God responded. GRANT S WORLD Well I am back from vacation officially today! I have been away for much of the past three weeks travelling south with my family. We spent some time in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and then in Virginia Beach and Williamsburg, Virginia. The weather was hot and sunny most of the time and we had a nice enjoyable time away relaxing. It was nice to be away for a while, but also nice to get back into the swing of things and find out what great things God has been doing at St. Andrew s during my time away. paper mache. It turns out that the Georgetown Christian Reformed Church did a VBS program a couple of weeks ago and has given us their props for us to use next month at our VBS. What a great act of generosity. Thanks Georgetown CRC. Last night our baseball team continued to do well. So far we are having our best season yet. At this point in the season we are 7 wins and 5 losses. Last night we beat out Norval Red 16-8 in a fun game. There were some amazing catches, great hits and speedy runners. A big shout out to Rob Ogger for taking one for the team as he caught a ball coming in from the outfield into home plate. He caught it well, but then did a summersault in the process. Rob, I am sure that your leg will be fine! I have heard that the church has been doing well under Brenda s guidance and worship leadership. And the best part is nobody died in my absence. So often when I go away a funeral comes up. Glad to hear that people are mostly doing well. See you this Sunday, Blessings, Grant standrewsminister@cogeco.ca I arrived here this morning to find a horse waiting for me!
