Missions PO Box 13459 Arlington, TX 76094 1Co 9:16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel! Tradition and superstition are big problems with the Native Americans. Many of them actually think that if they accept Christ (The white man s religion) that they can no longer be an Indian or a Navajo or whatever their tribal ethnicity is. Being a southerner from Alabama, I do not understand this. You can take the man out of Alabama but you can t take Alabama out of the man! I try to explain to them that they can get saved and keep their culture too. At least the culture that does not go against the Bible and morality. I stood in the hot sun for about 15-20 minutes trying to explain to Austin that their religion was just a local religion actually limited to an area between four sacred mountains and some Indian traditions and folklore. I explained to him that God was much bigger than a patch of ground and a few mountains. I explained to him that what everyone needed was salvation in Christ, the Gospel! Austin was one of the few that would talk about these things. Many will just hide in their houses, turn their back on you, nod their head in agreement and say nothing, (Indians are mostly polite to your face and non confrontational, sort of like southerners) for this reason, it makes it difficult to witness to them but some will listen and some will believe. God has put a burden on my heart for the hard to get to and hard to reach Indians. The ones that live a mile down a dirt road that comes off the main dirt road. Some live in very remote areas and the roads can be impassable without a 4x4. Pray for my Jeep! We need to make my 2007 Jeep Liberty off-road worthy with higher suspension, off-road tires, etc. It is a true 4x4 but has street tires and has already had four flats and hit a few rocks because of the low suspension. Alcoholism, drugs, unemployment, laziness, violence, etc. are very big problems on the reservation. Just within the last five months a man committed suicide and there was a double homicide within an area that only has about 3,000 people. Peyote ceremonies are getting to be more common (A ceremony held in a teepee with drums, chanting and a drug called peyote that causes extreme hallucinations). the Native Americans! Please pray for * Blessings: *The church is growing and starting to get on fire for God! * Our VBS was a blessing with eight saved and an average of eighty per day. Thanks to Trinity Baptist Church of Big Spring * Our three day Teen Rally was a huge success with two saved, with many new contacts and a high of 62! Thanks Trussville Southside Baptist Church for the help with our Teen Rally! * We received two more vans for the ministry! Thanks BBC of Slaton, Texas! * Eight Baptized in July * Corey and Lori have raised $20,000 so far for the camp ministry land in Brazil! * Ivanio, the Missionary that we trained in Brazil, is starting a new church in Navegantes, SC, Brazil and is training two men for the ministry * Todd and Sarah are settled and starting furlough. Our grand buddies are doing well
