Sunday in the Octave of Corpus Christi Contemporary Rite p. 63 Hymn of Faith p. 13 vv. 1 & 2 Penitential Rite, p. 66 Entrance Hymn V. Lord, You nourished Your people with food of angels and furnished them bread from heaven, ready to hand, untoiled for, endowed with all delights and conforming to every taste. R. For this substance of Yours revealed Your sweetness toward Your children, and serving the desire of him who received it, was blended to whatever flavor each one wished. V. Glory be R. As it was... A Reading from the Book of Genesis. Gen 14:18-20 In those days, Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine, and being a priest of God Most High, he blessed Abram with these words: "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, the creator of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who delivered your foes into your hand." Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything. This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Psalm Cleric s Corner Subdeacon Richard Kasprzak Elizabeth and I had the honor of attending the tenth anniversary of Resurrection parish in Temperance, Michigan on Sunday the 22nd. It took me back to my early years in the United States, as we had just emigrated from England to the United States, and wound up in Hamtramck, Michigan. Back then, in the early 1950s, Hamtramck was for all purposes, Polish, at least in the part of the city that I knew. The Roman Catholic Church that we attended was also named Resurrection Church. The Church was located on Miller Road, and we lived about three blocks away on Conant Street. The school was taught by Felician Sisters, no lay teachers were employed there at that time. I will never forget my first days at that school. Having just come from England, my mom was used to dressing me in the same fashion that the boys in England were dressed. This included - in the spring - short pants. So there I go to school, dressed like a typical English student. First thing I heard was a little mocking of my British accent, which bothered me a bit. But that passed quickly. Then what really bothered me for some reason, was the statement You must really be poor, as they could not afford enough material to make the pants to the right length. That bothered me. I refused to go back to school until I got the long pants. This to me seems to have been an act of intolerance. Someone who is a little different, has different values, dresses different, speaks with an accent has to be allowed to conform to what common values are, within established mores. I still feel bad about those early years, even now more than fifty years later. Hurts eventually heal, but the hurt feelings can surface forever. You are a priest for ever, in the line of Melchizedek. (Ps. 110) A reading from the First Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians. 1 Cor 11:23-26 Brothers and sisters: I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, "This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." For as often as May 29, 2016 2 May 29, 2016 11

As the day was drawing to a close, the Twelve approached him and said, "Dismiss the crowd so that they can go to the surrounding villages and farms and find lodging and provisions; for we are in a deserted place here." He said to them, "Give them some food yourselves." They replied, "Five loaves and two fish are all we have, unless we ourselves go and buy food for all these people." Now the men there numbered about five thousand. Then he said to his disciples, "Have them sit down in groups of about fifty." They did so and made them all sit down. Then taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing over them, broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. They all ate and were satisfied. And when the leftover fragments were picked up, they filled twelve wicker baskets. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise be to You, Jesus Christ.
