Praise Gd frm Whm All Blessings Flw (Dxlgy) Thmas Ken (1637-1710) Thmas Ken became an rphan when he was nly nine years ld. His lder sister and her husband raised him. When he was 14, he became a student at Winchester Cllege. After he graduated, he held varius teaching and preaching psitins. He was even the chaplain t Princess Mary until he refused t stay silent abut the bad behavir f sme peple in the Curt. He later became the chaplain t King Charles II f England. Ken curageusly refused t verlk the immral behavir f the King himself. This time the king recgnized his integrity with an excellent church leadership psitin. But the next king, James II, put Thmas Ken in prisn fr a time when he refused t cmprmise his principles. As a teacher, Ken spent a lt f time trying t encurage his students thrugh his preaching and music. He published a Manual f Prayers t be used by the students. In the prayer bk, he instructed his readers t be sure t sing the Mrning and Evening Hymns in their rms. It wasn t until twenty years later that the wrds t the Mrning, Evening and Midnight hymns were printed. The Dxlgy was at the clse f each f his three hymns. One f these three hymns is #53 in the SDA Hymnal: All Praise t Thee. There were riginally 12 stanzas t the hymn. We use nly stanzas 1, 2, 4, and 12.
