Library News...a quiet ministry Thanksgiving Community Dinner Sunday, November 25 @ Noon Fellowship Hall The United Methodist Women will be our host, and will provide the main meat dish, drinks and bread. Please bring a vegetable, salad or dessert to share. Consider inviting a new person to join in this fellowship time. Everyone is welcome. ALL-CHURCH MEETING TO FOLLOW - Sanctuary This is National Friends of Libraries encourage you to support your church library in the following ways: 1. Visit your church or public library and stop to think how blessed we are to have God's gift of words, the printed word, and access to Libraries. 2. Return any overdue books. 3. If you wish, make a small contribution to our church library fund. Thank you. Reading Group The Reading Group will not meet in the month of November, but will resume their meetings on December 13 at 1:00pm in Common Ground. Watch for information in our weekly emessenger. Ambassadors The Ambassadors, a senior adult group, will be meeting Monday, November 12 at the Shawnee United Methodist Church. Our program this month will Stories by Hedy. Hedy will be telling story of Debbie Reynolds. It should be really good! The Johnson County Health Department Nurses will check blood pressure from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. All senior citizens are welcome. First-time visitors are not expected to bring food. Bluejacket-Flint Donations We are asking for non-perishable healthy snacks for the Special Ed and First graders at Bluejacket-Flint, such as graham crackers, granola bars, peanut butter crackers or other healthy snacks, in individual packages. Shawnee United Methodist Church is committed to supporting our local charitable agency, Shawnee Community Services (SCS) at 67th and Nieman Rd. Please consider helping in one of the ways listed below for this holiday season: 1. They distribute two Holiday Dinner Boxes - one at Thanksgiving and one at Christmas. They are in need of 240 cans of cream of mushroom soup, canned pumpkin, evaporated milk, and canned cranberries for these boxes. 2. Their annual Christmas Party is Sunday December 16th at Shawnee Civic Center. Twenty-five ADULT SIZED SHOE BOXES are needed by December 3rd to wrap gifts in. They also need 300 gender neutral prizes for the Fish Pond game. 3. Volunteers are needed to work the Christmas Party from 12:30-4:30 p.m. You may bring your donations to the collection boxes found in the office and upstairs kitchen. Lifetree Café (Conversation Café and Meal) is a mid-week community gathering designed to ramp down the busyness of our lives and deepen our connection to God and one another. We meet every Wednesday (unless otherwise notified) * @ 6:00pm in Fellowship Hall. A dinner will be offered at 6:00pm followed by age appropriate break-out groups that offer fun learning activities and meaningful, respectful and stimulating conversation on topics that affect our lives today. OVERCOMING CHILDHOOD PAIN November 21 Is it possible to every truly recover from the emotional wounds you receive as a child? What would it take to finally let go of the childhood hurt you ve been carrying for so many years? Do emotional wounds hurt more as a child or as an adult? * There will be no Conversation Café on Wednesday, November 21 because of Thanksgiving.
