The Annual Thamuku Nercha (provided by Kuravilangadu Sangamam is being blessed by Vicariachan on Palm Sunday. THAMUKKU NERCHA According to earliest history, when Syrian Orthodox Patriarch Maphryono Mor Baselios Yaldo arrived at Kothamangalam in 1685, some parishioners from Karingachira took this mix of banana, fried powdered rice and jaggery to him and that he was pleased. This special food item later became known world-wide as THAMUKKU. Karingachira St. George Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church (near Tripunithura) is famous for its thamukku nercha on December 3rd (Vrischikam 20) during the feast of Mor Baselios Yaldo. It is the ritual offering (nercha) for the celebration (Perunnal) of the church. The St. Mary s Catholic Forane Church at Kudamaloor also offer Thamukku Nercha on every paschal Thursday. Doing this offering is a special privilege of people of Kumaranalloor area. They do this as a symbol of gratitude for the maternal love and care of Mukthiamma (St. Mary). Each family of Kumaranalloor has to contribute their share for the Thamukku nercha. It is cooked only by men. No woman is allowed to participate in its preparation. It is distributed to all the pilgrims at Kudamaloor church on Paschal Thursday. 5
