National Academy of Public Administration is located at Mussoorie. Uttarakhand Administrative Training Academy is located at Nainital. Uttarakhand State Education Research and Training Council was established in 2002 at Narendra Nagar, the historical city of Garhwal. The first agricultural university of the country is at Pant Nagar which was established on 17th November, 1960 by the Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru. It is known as a Govind Ballabh Pant agricultural and technology university. Chipko movement was started on 1st March, 1973 from Gopeshwar from Chamoli District, but in 1974 the labourers of Simon Sports Goods factory of Allahabad came to cut off the trees in protest of that the Chipko was born at Rari village. The biggest plant of the world i.e. Chilli was planted by Sri Kishan Chand Joshi at Almora. It was 660 cm. high, 93 cm broad, with 250 cm. of its circumference. It is written in the Gunnies book of World record. Dr. Harshwanti Bhist is renowned for Nanda Devi women expedition of 1981. She was awarded the Arjun Puraskar. Bacchendri Pal is the first Indian woman who climbed the Mt. Everest. She completed the Mt. Everest expendition on 23rd May, 1984.
