Please contact the Parish Of ice at (920) 468-5718 The more impatient we have become as a society, the more our relationships have suffered. Patience is at the core of any great relationship, because it takes patience to listen and really understand the heart of another person. Matthew Kelly Taken from The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity Scripture Re lection What does it mean to serve God? What does it mean to serve God? Joshua, Paul, and Peter address this question in the Readings today. They all shared the importance of recommitting to a covenant to serve, witness and follow one God, Jesus Christ. There was one verse that resonated for me, I have seen this verse printed in stores that sell wall art and decorations. It is Joshua 24:15 As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. What do these words truly mean? Are we servants to those around us? Is our households/community following Gods words through actions? What kind of actions do we need to do? Praying, helping, giving, loving etc is this enough? Pope Francis shared at one of his re lections that, " Love and charity, are service, helping others, serving others. There are many people who spend their lives in this way, in the service of others. When you forget yourself and think of others, this is love! And with the washing of the feet the Lord teaches us to be servants, and above all, servants as He was a servant to us, for every one of us."-- Jubilee audience, March 12, 2016. Then I remembered a book I read, The Servant as Leader. In this book Greenleaf de ined the purpose of how to serve, care and lead. He stated; The care taken by the servant- irst to make sure that other people s highest priority needs are being served. Do those served grow as persons? Do they, while being served, become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants? And, what is the effect on the least privileged in society? Will they bene it or at least not be further deprived? Looking at some of the qualities.values.skills needed to serve; how would we it on the spectrum of serving/ service as a person, household or community? Are we: Patient or Impatient? Kind or Unkind? Actively listening or Silent, waiting for the opportunity to speak? Humble or Arrogant? Respectful or Rude? Sel less or Sel ish? Forgiving or Resentful? Honest or Dishonest? Committed or Involved? Loving or Indifferent? Deb Wegner-Hohensee Pastoral Care Coordinator Page 6 Prince of Peace Parish
