Worship Service GO RED FOR HEART HEALTH February 11, 2018 Babies Blessed 11:30 AM To all those who enter here: Be thoughtful, be silent, be reverent. Before the service, speak to God. During the service, let God speak to you. After the service, speak to others. Prelude Nathaniel Gumbs, Organist Ramón Bryant Braxton, Guest Conductor 9:00 AM 11:30 AM Reverend Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" arr. Calvin Taylor Leader: Call to Worship God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way. People: Eternal God, you brought us together after the Middle Passage, delivered us from the chains of slavery, and sustained us through every movement for change. Leader: Thou who has by thy might, led us into the light, keep us forever in the path, we pray. People: In this season of history and heritage, we celebrate the gift of creative resistance. When it was illegal for our ancestors to learn, we rose from the ashes with mathematical, scientific, and literary genius. When the African drum was outlawed, we kept the beat alive in our hymns and spirituals. Leader: Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where met Thee. Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world we forget thee. People: We stand today, as a family in faith to remember our legacy and recommit to the forward progress of our people. All: Shadowed beneath thy hand, may we forever stand, True to God, true to our native land. Amen. How to maintain a healthy lifestyle! Manage your blood pressure. Keep it at 120/80 or below. Control your cholesterol and reduce your Blood Sugar. Most of the food we eat is turned onto glucose (or blood sugar) that our bodies use for energy. Over time, high levels of sugar can damage your heart, kidneys, eyes, and nerves. Get Active. Living an active life is one of the most rewarding gifts you can give yourself and those you love. Simply put, daily physical activity increases your length and quality of life. Eat better. A healthy diet is one of your best weapons for fighting cardiovascular disease. When you eat a heart-healthy diet, you improve your chances of feeling good and staying healthy for life. Lose Weight. When you shed extra fat and unnecessary pounds, you reduce the burden on your heart, lungs, blood vessels, and skeleton. Stop Smoking. Cigarette smokers have a higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease. If you smoke, quitting is the best thing you can do for your health.
