Wednesday, October 10, 2018 Tel Aviv Upon arrival in Tel Aviv airport, we are met by our airport representative and tour guide, and transfer to our hotel in Tel Aviv for dinner and overnight. D Thursday, October 11, 2018 Sea of Galilee area After breakfast and check out we board our motor coach and drive to Caesarea Maritima to explore this Roman bridgehead to the East, which became the Christian springboard to the West. We tour the Roman theater, the hippodrome and promenade to the renovated Crusader city and home of Philip the Evangelist. We visit the top of Mt. Carmel, where Elijah prayed down fire from heaven and defeated the 450 prophets of Ba al (I Kings 18). We stop in Megiddo, and then continue to Nazareth, the childhood town of Jesus. We tour the Basilica of the Annunciation and enjoy the reconstructed Nazareth Village, a full scale reconstruction of life in Nazareth during the time of Jesus. We drive through Cana, the village where Jesus performed the first miracle, turning water into wine. We arrive at our hotel in the Sea of Galilee area and have dinner. B/D Friday, October 12, 2018 Sea of Galilee area This morning, we take a Sea of Galilee boat ride to Kibbutz Ginosar to see the Yigal Allon Jesus Boat Museum. This museum features the Jesus Boat, dating to 1st century AD; it is similar to the boat Jesus and his disciples sailed in. We drive along the Sea of Galilee to Capernaum, where we visit the synagogue and the place where early Christians remember Peter s house. We continue to Tabgha (short for Heptapagon, seven springs ) to view the mosaics in the Church of the Loaves and Fishes. Ascending the Mount of Beatitudes, we listen to Jesus teachings and envision the Sermon on the Mount. We return to our hotel for dinner. B/D Saturday, October 13, 2018 Sea of Galilee area We start today with a drive to Caesarea Philippi (Banias), where Peter answered Jesus question, Who do you say that I am? Our route then takes us over the Golan Heights, skirting Mt. Hermon, with a view toward Damascus. We have an amazing panoramic view from Mt. Bental where we can see the Israel-Syria border. We stop at Yardenit, the famous baptismal site, where we have the option of reaffirming our baptism at the Jordan River. We return to our hotel for dinner and overnight. B/D Sunday, October 14, 2018 Bethlehem Today we depart our hotel and visit the Tel of Beit Shean, where the bodies of King Saul and his sons hung from the city gates (I Sam. 31). We stop at Gideon spring, where Gideon chose his warriors to fights the Midianites. When at Jericho we view the excavated Tel of the ruins of the ancient city and spectacular views of the lush green Jordan Valley and Elisha's fountain. We go thru the Judean desert, stopping at the lookout on St. George Monastery at Wadi Qulet. We enter Bethlehem where we have dinner and overnight. B/D Monday, October 15, 2018 Bethlehem Today we visit some of the major sights in Bethlehem. We tour the Shepherd s Fields, Church of the Nativity, and view of Rachel s Tomb. We have a great opportunity as we meet with people who live in Bethlehem and hear about their lives. We return to our hotel for dinner and overnight. B/D Tuesday, October 16, 2018 Jerusalem We depart Bethlehem today and enter Jerusalem. We start the day at the Mount of Olives, where we can view the Dome of the Rock and the al-aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site of Islam, located on the traditional site of the ancient Temple Mount, where God commanded Abraham to offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice (Genesis 22:5 and 22:8). We then follow the traditional Palm Sunday route to the church known as Dominus Flevit ( the Lord weeps ). After viewing the Golden Gate, we walk downhill to Gethsemane, and visit the Church of All Nations, built atop the rock upon which Jesus prayed before his arrest. We enjoy a guided stroll in the old city, entering the city walls at St. Stephen s Gate (also known as Lion s Gate). We visit the Pool of Bethesda, site of the miraculous healing of a paralyzed man by Jesus. We tour the Church of St. Anne, where Christian groups love to sing hymns as they visit. We walk the Via Dolorosa passing the Stations of the Cross to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the ancient site of the crucifixion and burial of Jesus. This evening we enjoy the sound and light show at Tower of David. We check into our hotel for dinner and overnight. B/D Wednesday, October 17, 2018 Jerusalem Today our touring takes us to Temple mount which we ascend and see the Dome of the rock and Al Aqsa musk. The archeological park, of City of David, tells the story of the establishment of Jerusalem, its wars and hardships, its prophets and kings, and the history of the Jews during Biblical times. At the Davidson Center we'll see virtual reconstructions of archaeological sites like the Herodian Temple Mount prior to its destruction in the year 70CE. A glass-enclosed viewing platform allows us to view the southern and western Walls of the Temple Mount as they stand presently. We drive to Mt. Zion to visit the Room of the Last Supper and the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu, where Peter denied Jesus. This area affords the best view of early Jerusalem from the west. We return to our hotel for dinner and overnight. B/D Thursday, October 18, 2018 Jerusalem We drive south today through the Judean desert to Masada. While here we take the cable car to the top, visiting Herod s mountain palace/bunker and the last stronghold of the Jewish revolt against Rome (66-73 AD). At Qumran, we view Cave #4, which contained the greatest quantity of Dead Sea Scrolls. We make a stop where you can swim and float in the Dead Sea. We also stop at the Baptism site, Qaser El Yahud, where John baptized Jesus. We return to Jerusalem for dinner and overnight. B/D Friday, October 19, 2018 Jerusalem This morning we visit Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Museum, remember a time never to be forgotten. Next we visit the Israel Museum, shrine of the book, and the 2nd temple Jerusalem model. At Gordon s Calvary, known as the Garden Tomb, a serene authentic first-century tomb that many believe was the site of the burial and resurrection. We have the opportunity to have a communion service. We drive to the beautiful neighborhood of Ein Karem, birth place of John the Baptist. We return to our hotel for dinner and a short rest before we transfer to the airport for our flight home. B/D Saturday, October 20, 2018 Return It will be either a late night or early morning flight back to Minneapolis. We return home having seen where Jesus lived and taught during his lifetime. We have many memories to share with our loved ones.
