THE SECOND PETITION OF THE LORD S PRAYER The Confirmation Program of Christ Lutheran Church

REVIEW: THE INTRODUCTION Our Father who art in heaven What does this mean? With these words God tenderly invites us to believe that He is our true Father and that we are His true children, so that with all boldness and confidence we may ask Him as dear children ask their dear father.

REVIEW: THE FIRST PETITION Hallowed be Your Name What does this mean? God s name is certainly holy in itself, but we pray in this petition that it may be kept holy among us also. How is God s name kept holy? God s name is kept holy when the Word of God is taught in its truth and purity, and we, as the children of God, also lead holy lives according to it. Help us to do this, dear Father in heaven! But anyone who teaches or lives contrary to God s Word profanes the name of God among us. Protect us from this, heavenly Father!

THE SECOND PETITION Thy Kingdom Come What does this mean? The kingdom of God certainly comes by itself without our prayer, but we pray in this petition that it may come to us also. How does God s Kingdom Come? God s kingdom comes when our heavenly Father gives us His Holy Spirit, so that by grace we believe His Holy Word and lead godly lives here in time and there in eternity.

CONFIRMATION Next week 4 members of our class will be Confirmed. Robes will be distributed today. Please follow printed instructions.

CONFIRMATION QUESTIONS P Do you this day in the presence of God and of this congregation acknowledge the gifts that God gave you in your Baptism? R Yes, I do. P Do you renounce the devil? R Yes, I renounce him. P Do you renounce all his works? R Yes, I renounce them. P Do you renounce all his ways? R Yes, I renounce them.

CONFIRMATION QUESTIONS P Do you believe in God the Father Almighty? R Yes, I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. P Do you believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord? R Yes, I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. P Do you believe in the Holy Spirit? R Yes, I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

CONFIRMATION QUESTIONS P Do you hold all the prophetic and apostolic Scriptures to be the inspired Word of God? R I do. P Do you confess the doctrine of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, drawn from the Scriptures, as you have learned to know it from the Small Catechism, to be faithful and true? R I do. P Do you intend to hear the Word of God and receive the Lord's Supper faithfully? R I do, by the grace of God. P Do you intend to live according to the Word of God, and in faith, word, and deed to remain true to God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, even to death? R I do, by the grace of God. P Do you intend to continue steadfast in this confession and Church and to suffer all, even death, rather than fall away from it? R I do, by the grace of God.

THE KINGDOM OF GOD There are THREE Different Kingdoms of God

KINGDOM OF GOD The Kingdom of POWER: The World

KINGDOM OF GOD The Kingdom of GRACE: The CHURCH

THE KINGDOM OF GOD The Kingdom of GLORY: Heaven

THE KINGDOM OF GOD We pray that Jesus would protect us in the Kingdom of POWER We ask God to Give us the HOLY SPIRIT so that we might believe in Jesus and receive eternal life. We pray that God s Kingdom would be expanded through the spread of the Gospel

THE KINGDOM OF GOD We pray that God would use US to extend His Kingdom of Grace (the Church) We pray that God would hasten the coming of His Kingdom of Glory.

THE MEANS OF GRACE The Inspired, Inerrant, Infallible Word of God (Scriptures) The Sacraments: Holy Baptism, Holy Absolution, Holy Communion.

We pray that God s Kingdom would come to us!

CLOSING PRAYER Pray together: Father in heaven, give us Your Holy Spirit so that we believe Your holy Word and live as members of Your gracious Kingdom here in time and finally by Your mercy be brought to live as partakers of Your everlasting reign; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
