Amen. Page 6
Order of Service 1st Hymn O, God our help in ages past (verses 1, 2 and 5) 1. O God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come, Our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home. 2. Beneath the shadow of thy throne, Thy saints have dwelt secure; Sufficient is thine arm alone, And our defense is sure. 3. Before the hills in order stood, Or earth received her frame, From everlasting thou art God, Through endless years the same. 4. A thousand ages, in thy sight, Are like an evening gone; Short as the watch that ends the night, Before the rising sun. 5. O God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come; Be thou our guard while life shall last, And our eternal home. The Lesson: St. John 15 v. 12-17 The Prayer of Remembrance Almighty and eternal God, from whose love in Christ we cannot be parted, either by death or life; Hear our prayers and thanksgiving for all whom we remember this day; fulfill in t hem the purpose of thy love; and bring us all, with them, to thine eternal joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen 2nd Hymn All people that on earth do dwell 1. All people that on earth do dwell, Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice; Him serve with fear, His praise forth tell; Come ye before Him and rejoice. 2. The Lord, ye know, is God indeed, Without our aid He did us make, We are His folk, He doth us feed; And for His sheep, He doth us take. 3. Oh enter then His gates with praise, Approach with joy His courts unto; Praise, laud, and bless His name always, For it is seemly so to do. 4. For why? the Lord, our God, is good. His mercy is for ever sure; His truth at all times firmly stood, And shall from age to age endure. 5. To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, To God whom heaven and earth adore, From men and from the Angel-host, Be praise and glory evermore. Page 3
The Act of Intercession Let us pray for the peace of the world:- For the Queen, statesmen and rulers that they may have the wisdom to know and courage to do that which is right. Lord, in thy mercy, People: Hear our prayer. For all who work to improve international relationships that they may find the true way to reconcile people of different race, colour and creed. Lord, in thy mercy, People: Hear our prayer. For men and women the world over that they may have justice and freedom and live in security and peace. Lord, in thy mercy, People: Hear our prayer. Most gracious God in whose will is our peace; turn our hearts and the hearts of all men everywhere to Thyself, that by the power of thy Spirit, the peace which is founded on righteousness may be established throughout the world; through Jesus Chris our Lord. Amen. 1. Thy Kingdom come, O God, Thy rule, O Christ, begin; Break with Thine iron rod The tyrannies of sin. The Act of Thanksgiving Let us thank our Heavenly Father:- For drawing mankind through many centuries, by many means, away from darkness towards the light of His truth. For moving countless men and women in times past and in times present to spend or lay down their lives for the sake of their fellow-men; For calling us now, in our day, to serve Him here on earth. O Almighty God, we thank thee for all those who have loved and served thee here and are now at rest and we pray, that as thou has called us to thy service so thou wilt make us worthy of our calling; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen 3rd Hymn Thy kingdom come, O God 4. We pray thee, Lord, arise And come in thy great might; Revive our longing eyes, Which languish for thy sight. 2. Where is thy rule of peace And purity and love? When shall all hatred cease, As in the realms above? 3. When comes the promised time That war shall be no more, Oppression, lust, and crime, Shall flee thy face before? 5. Men scorn thy sacred name, And wolves devour thy fold; By many deeds of shame We learn that love grows cold. 6. O'er lands both near and far Thick darkness broodeth yet: Arise, O morning star, Arise, and never set! Page 4
The Address Poem read by pupils of Leighterton Primary School Let us remember before God and commend to His sure keeping Those who have died for their country and its cause; Those whom we knew and whose memory we treasure; And all who have lived and died in the service of mankind and in defence of justice and freedom. The Lord s Prayer 4th Hymn O Valiant Hearts During the singing of this hymn the Royal British Legion and other wreaths will be laid. 1. O Valiant Hearts, who to your glory came Through dust of conflict and through battle flame; Tranquil you lie, your knightly virtue proved, Your memory hallowed in the land you loved. 2. Proudly you gathered, rank on rank, to war, As who had heard God s message from afar; All you had hoped for, all you had, you gave To save mankind yourselves you scorned to save. 3. Splendid you passed, the great surrender made; Into the light that nevermore shall fade; Deep your contentment in that blest abode, Who wait the last clear trumpet call of God. 4. These were his servants, in his steps they trod, Following through death the martyr d Son of God: Victor He rose; victorious too shall rise They who have drunk his cup of sacrifice. 5. O risen Lord, O Shepherd of our Dead, Whose cross has bought them and Whose staff has led In glorious hope their proud and sorrowing Land Commits her Children to Thy gracious hand.
