18 August 2013 Our Need for a Larger Place for Administration and Activities Raising S$5 Million by the end of 2015 We praise the Lord that He has steadily nurtured our church and blessed us with spiritual growth and an increase in worshippers and ministries. He has always been gracious to provide us with wisdom, strength and all the things that we have needed for the past 25 years. Our growing church urgently needs a larger space for our church s administration centre and various activities. It has been for a while that our present Church Resource Centre is overcrowded and overflowing. Though the church staff work joyfully and patiently in a jam-packed office, the cramped workspace affects efficiency, safety, etc. Then there is the urgent need for a couple of conference rooms and additional Prabhudas Koshy small rooms for preachers to meet with those who need counselling, for committee meetings and for prayer. It is also getting extremely difficult to find affordable venues for weekly fellowship meetings, seminars, retreats and other activities. The additional benefits that we can obtain from a bigger place are truly many for our growing church ministries storage, workspace and library, just to name a few. The Church Session prayed about our needs and unanimously decided to work towards raising S$5 million by 2015 to purchase a larger place to meet our increasing needs. But would that amount be sufficient? A few months ago, an empty parcel of land (4,798.4 sq m) in Punggol for church use has been tendered by HDB for S$22 million (http:// www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10330p.nsf/ w/landdevmangfinalresult). With land prices skyrocketing in Singapore, it is mind-boggling to think how we can meet our need for a larger space. Though we cannot visualize the future, we are confident that the Lord will help to meet our needs. For now, we are led by the Lord to attempt to raise S$5 million. It is certainly a mammoth task for our congregation. This is, by far, the largest sum that we have ever undertaken. However, we are glad to recollect the promise in the Scriptures that God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). pastoral exhortation 3

pastoral exhortation I would urge all Gethsemaneans and our regular worshippers to embolden themselves in the promises of God. Consider the following promises of God, and know that He will provide. But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day Deuteronomy 8:18 The LORD is able to give thee much more than this 2 Chronicles 25:9 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want Psalm 23:1 Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men! Psalm 31:19 O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing Psalm 34:9-10 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly Psalm 84:11 Yea, the LORD shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase Psalm 85:12 Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth Psalm 124:8 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it Proverbs 10:22 For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee Isaiah 41:13 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him Isaiah 64:4 Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee Jeremiah 32:17 Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me? Jeremiah 32:27 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts Haggai 2:8 4

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you Matthew 6:33; cf. Luke 12:31 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace John 1:16 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Romans 8:32 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him 1 Corinthians 2:9 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work 2 Corinthians 9:8 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us Ephesians 3:20 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me Hebrews 13:6 Please rejoice in the above divine promises and pray with faith and thanksgiving for the provision of a larger place for our church. We have trusted Him for the past 25 years in all our varying needs. He has always proved His goodness and faithfulness by granting us more than we ever imagined. It can be truly said of Gethsemane B-P Church They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed (Psalm 34:5). I woke up early last Thursday (15th Aug) at about 5am, and the Spirit of God moved my heart to write this article. Before I could complete listing the above promises, which the Spirit of God has reminded me, I had to join my family at 6.30am for the family devotion. The song that He has led us to sing has further strengthened my heart, and I want to quote a portion of that song as I conclude this article. He tells me of my Father s love, And never slumb ring eye, My everlasting King above Will all my needs supply. Singing I go along life s road, Praising the Lord, praising the Lord; Singing I go along the road, For Jesus has lifted my load. R pastoral exhortation 5

junior worshipper s page A nd there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret. Genesis 41:12 Joseph was a helpful person because he was kind-hearted to those who were troubled or in need. On one occasion, he took notice of the troubled faces of Pharaoh s chief butler and chief baker who were in prison together with him. He approached them and asked Wherefore look ye so sadly to day? (Genesis 40:7). He not only showed sympathy but also extended his help. He interpreted their dreams for them and helped them to understand their meaning. Both dreams came Be Helpful Like Joseph Kelvin Lim to pass according to Joseph s interpretation because God gave him the knowledge to understand them. When Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, had two dreams in one night, he was much troubled by them. He called all the magicians and wise men in Egypt to interpret his dreams but no one was able to help him. Suddenly, the chief butler remembered Joseph who had helped him to understand his dream two years ago while he was in prison. He told Pharaoh that Joseph could help him to interpret and understand his dreams. Immediately, Pharaoh sent for Joseph. When Joseph was brought before Pharaoh, he told him that God would give him an answer of peace regarding his dreams. After Pharaoh told Joseph about his two dreams, Joseph gave him the interpretations of 6 them, and helped him to understand that they actually had the same meaning. There were to be seven good years of plenteous harvest followed by seven years of severe famine that would come soon. Pharaoh was very happy with Joseph for helping him to know the meaning of his dreams. The LORD gave Joseph the knowledge of interpreting dreams so that he might help others and do good to them who have a need. Though we do not have the knowledge to interpret dreams like Joseph, we could use whatever gifts, talents or skills that we have to help others. We are to be helpful and do good to all men! As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith (Galatians 6:10). `
